    Finally fully working dash

Well after a few years of things gradually failing on my dash clocks i decided to try end up with a fully working set.

Problems with mine were LCD bleed, bulbs out, odometer not working, clock kept resetting itself.

Bought a set of fleabay sold as perfect working order won them for £96 bargain, not really, the trip comp LCD had completely bled out so no use. Got in touch with seller agreed to give me £25 back so not too bad.

Bought the tiny cog of fleabay for the odometer for £27 then looked at swapping it and thought, No, I'll just end up with a bag full of bits that I never put back together.

Bought another full set of here fully working but speedo peeling quite bad £75 fair price worth it for the trip computer if you ask me.

Now on the bench pull them all apart hold my breath and sorted a set of fully working clocks woooooshtastic, I forgot how nice it is to be able to actually read the clocks on a night

The temp bulb has gone and I think I may have the wrong wattage bulb in one of the rev counter sections as it looks a little dim

    Love this car

Do all the fixing points break? all three sets have damaged ones so just put washers on them

    Good job

The millage stopped working on my TDI which was a broken cog. I didn't realise it was the same on petrol cars I managed to get a set of clocks from a late TDI, when I swapped it no backing lights worked swapped all the bulbs from my old dash but the speedo side still didn't work so I reused the circuit board of my original cluster. Whilst swapping it all over, I saw the millage clocks were different and the late cluster didn't appear to have the cog the breaks

My only problem now is sometime when I start the car the clock resets, Did you find out what the fault was with yours?

Think that is just poor connection if I tried to set mine sometimes the slightest touch on the stick reset it to zero, maybe spray a bit of Kontact cleaner in their

the clocks have been in and out LOTS of times (heater matrix replaced a few times and now the heater controls don't work correctly )

I'll try some contact cleaner, I've got some in the garage

Excellent job on the clocks Rikki! Its a great sense of achievement isn't it!

Clock reset may mean the live feed to the cluster is dodgy which can be internal to the cluster, there are pins which plug through between the circuit boards and these need cleaning and the tiny sockets tightening gently with small pliers. While you're in there check for dry solder joints. Does the trip computer reset too?

Shaun5, If the heater controls don't work properly it may be the foam has fallen off the flaps which means there are holes where the air leaks through, You have to take the whole heater box out, open it up, peel the remnants of the old foam off, stick new foam on and rebuild. Make sure you have the correct cables going to the correct levers too.

The missus thinks I'm mental, driving around last night all I kept saying was "look babe, look at the clocks they're all working"

She just gave me the look, you know the one as if to say so what

Think i'll live with the clock resetting, don't want to mess with the clock again as they are all working and my radio has the time on it

I know what the problem is with my heater ive got a spare one rebuilt just don't seem to have the motivation to fit it, especially when it kind of does work

Quote from RIKKI KITTO. Do all the fixing points break? all three sets have damaged ones so just put washers on them

                Hello from Junct 17 M25.
Yes they all seam to be broken.I bought 2 of ebay for the outside temperature display and one had the Computer for my B4 V6 avant.I also removed from a very low mileage 90 20v saloon the binnicle. It had never been out before and it seams they all break just sitting in the dash.Must be a weak point. It's very minor and makes no difference.

Great job you done there!! My Mrs is the same, just can't get as enthusiastic as me.She likes driving them though.Typical

I thought the cluster fixing points only break when knuckle heads over tighten the screws.

I second that for the temp bulb, could do with some clocks with no peel and good LCD too... too much to ask?
