  • vag com connection problem

    Having trouble connecting vag com or my hand held fault code reader.There seems to be a power supply problem to the white lead as when it is wiggled about the connection is made albeit for a second or two and then it just dies.
    Is it possible that there could be a broken wire somewhere or a power supply problem.
    There should be no problem with vag com as its a genuine ross tech item with lead.
    could it be worth cleaning the the small earthing rings in the fuse box.
    seeing as it doesnt power up my hand held scanner and the genuine vagcom cannot make a connection tells me that the problem is with the connectors??
    Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Power is actually the black OBD plug.
    The White plug is k and l wires... The ecu needs both for obd comms to work.

    You could try cleaning the OBD terminals in the fusebox and checking for good continuity to the White plug.

        Cheers Paul,hoping you might show up and help.
        So with me wiggling the white wire should have nothing to do with powering up my scanner(or vag com) is the black one I should concentrate on?
        I have sprayed contact cleaner on the connectors with no change

            Buying 5 gbp multimeter would stop this guessing.

              Are you using the same 2 x 2 lead with both the vagcom lead and the scanner? ODB plugs are the black and white 2 pin things.

                  OBD = on board diagnostics

                  this consists of two wires nominated K and L on the S2... each of these wires is presented in the fusebox on ring terminals which are jumpered onto that white 2-pin plug - have a look at ye fusebox sticker for a label of what plug does what ?
