Charlie, if you do need a couple of senders I have some in the garage from when I rebuilt my engine

Update
Plugged in Vag-com
FIRST CODE: 00513 ENGINE SPEED ON SIGNAL G28
SECOND CODE: 00514 CRANKSHAFT SENSOR NO SIGNAL G54
Removed crankshaft sensor which had some damage to cable with insulation
stripped. P/N 034 905 381 A
No more fault codes appeared.RS2 MTMComment

I'm sure that G54 should be G4... If you are getting both these codes, then maybe G28 and G4 are indeed swapped. G4picks up the crank reference pins at 62 degrees BTDC #1 - telling the ECU where the crankshaft is. G28 counts flywheel teeth - telling the ECU how fast the crank is rotating.Originally posted by charliePlugged in Vag-com

Have you tried swapping connectors for G4 and G28 yet ?
Have the fault codes all cleared now ?

Paul
First code was the first interogation. I presumed this was a common fault
code as engine was not turning. Cleared this code. Do know how long this code
has been their cause last time i checked codes was about 8 months ago.
Second code was second interogation. only this code showed. removed
crankshaft sensor cleaned it, checked terminals, checked connectivity and
continuity/resistance.
This is when i noticed split in insulation and sheilding.
cleared ECU code, reassembled, turned over engine
and checked codes again .
Same code appeared and no other codes appeared.
Ordered a new sensor. will install tomorrow and see what happens.RS2 MTMComment

Assuming you have G4 & G28 wired to the correct plugs. You should also suspect -Originally posted by charlieYes but will double check tommorrow.
What would stop spark plugs and injectors from not firing
G40 - the cam position sensor - this was discussed as well as G4 & G28...
A dead G40 means the engine cannot start...
Another suggestion - have you checked ALL the Motronic fuses ? You might have blown one when you had the wiring damage !

Items Checked
1) Montronic Fuses Both Ok
2) All Earth Straps Cleaned, replaced & Tested With Voltmeter
3) All Conectors At Bulkhead, Cleaned And Checked Pins
4) Fuel Injector Wire Have 0.3 Volts Pd But No Negative
Pulse To Trigger Injectors
5) Coil Pack Has 12volts Pd Supply On Yellow Wires
And Earth Is Good On Casing Cover
6) The 3 Wires That Connect To Camshaft Sensor Have
5 Volts, 4.88 Vlots & 0.13 Volts Pd Between Them
Please Can Anyone Measure And Tell The Resitance Between
The 3 Wires To The Camshaft Sensor (hall Sender)
Mine Is Showing Infinate Resistance As In No Connection
Between All 3 Wires. Normally 2 Show Some High Resistace And
1 Infinate.
Pd = Potential Difference.
