The car is not with me, it's with the Audi main dealer.
They've checked the tapits, and to investigate any more they'll need to remove the head (=very expensive)

Bit confused!
Has the head been off or not?
Few possibilities. The valves are open or bent. You have a piston/bore/headgasket problem. A leakdown test not a compression test would be more diagnostic. Perhaps if you ask nicely, as its only one cylinder, they might oblige.

best bet...get it out of the main stealer and to your local specialist.......
"Step away from the main dealer and put the phone down"
Take it to an independent. The dealer will screw you.

Yes the head has been off. But I don't think they did a compression check before they took it off... So i'm not sure if it's their problem or not.
My problem is that in order to find out, I have to commit to another 10 hours' labour, which I really can't afford.
So if anyone is interested in buying an S2 in great condition, but with 1 cylinder not compressing, give me a PM.
Thanks S2dude, but the car's stuck down in Cambridge. And anyway, the whole reason this happened is because the last specialist to service the car apparently didn't tighten the spark plugs properly.

Sorry to see anyone in this situation... perhaps it's worth getting the car towed somewhere a litte more reasonable on costs, or if you can work on it yourself, all the way back up North?
Closest specialist that I know to you would be www.theautopool.co.uk whom are well respected in Audi circles and have done a lot of servicing on my car and even the clutch...
If I were you, I would tell Audi to stick it, pay them what you think they deserve and have the car on a low loader elsewhere....
Good luck, I feel your pain.
Cheers,
Steve.

We need the equivalent of the A-team on the S2 Forum - complete with a big black van, chock full of tools, skilled hands and towing apparatus who can rescue cars like this from the evil untrained hands of the dealership...

In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped a maximum security stockade to the UK underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...the S2 Team.
