I could be interested, but I assume that they have to be all the same in order to get the discount. I would want mine with some mods and different size wrist pin.
Sorry mate looks like there's no discount at all now.
I spoke to russell at arrows and this is what he told me.
"Dave must have been on another planet when he quoted you that, he must have quoted you for motorbike rods. We can supply those rods for 650 each and 100 discount for a group buy, it doesn't matter how many people you get we can only offer you 100 discount"
Motorbike rods?!?
I told him exactly what engine it was. Audi S2 2.2 5cyl turbo. Sounds like some motorbike!!!
If I can't get a good deal stateside what do those pauters translate into GBP!
The 380 grams are for the I5 rods or for motorcycles.
and for 10000 Rpm you must also do something for your crank. People revving so far have crank problems with the oil on the crank bearings. As it happens the crank is touching th eberings (no more oil film) and the engine flys!
I would love to take it to 10000 but it's not something I think i'd want for a daily driver. I think 10k is a bit ambitious. 8500 is prob. more where i'll end up.
drifting off the subject a bit. whats the weak points in the valvetrain at those sort of rpm(10k)? springs?
To take it to past 8K rpm is not as simple as just rising the rpm limiter,
You need to change lifter to solid one, light weight valve gear, standard oil pump is no good and other mods to block, crank etc
For such high rpm you most definatley want to go with a better oil delivery (dry sump) setup or such. You are reaching high piston speed, everything must be lightened starting from normall pulleys, lose ac, electric pump?, crank, flywheel, valve gear, solid lifters to avoid valve float, light pistons/rods, balance everything.
Everything must be planed corectly to make use of the high revs, like type of cams used, turbo size ect. It really comes down to what you want the car to do? 1/4 mile or track car ect ect.
Honda engines are known for high revs and big hp. On a 1.8l 16v honda tuners achieve 700-800whp, all done through proper engine breathing, high revs and high volumetric efficiency and huge turbos. Power comes at 6k but you usually jump from 200whp to 800whp in 2000 rpm
That pic of the block in half its of a 16v vw engine who apparently went close to 1000hp, i doubt it broke in half becasue of the power, more likley an imbalance/stress build up in the block. I have seen similar blocks savaged like that in tractor pulling, nuts.
