I'll be very interested in the outcome of this one. Optimax is pretty scarce around me. The nearest pumps are 15 miles away, and not necessarily in the direction I want to go. I was only saying earlier this week, 2 different switchable chips would be a good idea.

A little bit off-topic.
I don't know why only Shell do a 98 RON fuel in the UK.
Here in Spain were cars are a lot more crappy and money in the pockets is a lot less we have 98RON in every single Gas Station.
BP even produces an Ultimate that is supposed to be 98+RON.
Either they all lie here and we have just 95 RON or I dont see why anybody starts a business in the UK with high octane fuel with all the performance cars around there.94' RS2 Coupe TT (Twin Torsen

With this two stage map thing, would it be technically possible to run an ABY with no cats and have a performance map and a "get an MOT with no cats" map. I know some places get snooty about cats missing but it is my understanding that if it passes the emmisions test they ain't going to be looking for cats underneath. Can a map even do this? Would run like poo in all probability but the tester wouldn't care and id have more than 3 inches ground clearance!Ragusa Coupe gone!

There is NO MOT with no cats map. This is technically unachievable. I've breathed exhaust fumes on Lee's car at Greg's dad's garage last year during more than 1 hour trying to get the car to pass MOT with no cats and no luck, it is not possible....

Kenny, Revo's stuff is not really multi-map, it plays with different settings of the ECU that one can pre-set when you do the chip. Technically it's a good idea, but tuning-wise it still needs some messing with it...
I'm currently working on a solution that would bring a newer ECU to stock power levels with vag-com or with an OBD-2 switch that would do the same job automatically...
On most TDIs that I tune, they can be reset back to stock just by recoding the ECU with VAG-Com, it's totally invisible...
Cheers,

The new BMW M5 - the 5litre v10 one with 500BHP: that has a two-stage map as standard apparently.
When you start the car it's in 400BHP mode; if you want the extra 100BHP, you select the M button the steering wheel and you get the full 500BHP.
Impressive technology from a normally aspriated engine if you ask me. Far too clever for my tiny brain to cope with.Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...

Dougs car will be interesting. Im looking forward to driving it
to see how it compares with mine. Should be intersting as both cars will be running the same turbos and IC's, only differences being mine has tubular manifold and 3" exhaust and Dougs has AAN intake and 2.5" exhaust

Bit like the Corvette ZR1. 32 valve V8 with 16 intake butterflies. All are used unless you set it to VALET mode where it reduces the number of butterflies used per cylinder to only 1 (instead of 2). Must also be some clever mapping behind that too to keep the mixtures from leaning out too much...that was 13 years ago.Originally posted by dan_bThe new BMW M5 - the 5litre v10 one with 500BHP: that has a two-stage map as standard apparently.

Some 70's yank tank had pneumatic valves and could be driven on 4, 6 or 8 cylinders selectively. Smart stuff back then. Can't remember the name and it probably only span to 2,000rpm before tearing itself to pieces!! LOL! I think that came out of the 70's oil crisis and the need to make engines more economical.
Doesn't the new M5 use 2 ECUs?1995 S2 Avant with some upgrades
