  • High flow panel filter for RS2 Airbox?

I want to fit a new air filter before next weekend and I'd like to get a good one, not so sure about the K&N route because of the oil going through the MAF so what are my alternatives? How about these green cotton things? And how about where to buy one online? I love shopping at the kitchen table from my laptop

Demon Tweets have K&N for £43 and a BMC cotton for £41.

Anyone have any thoughts about which might be better?

If I were you, I would stick to paper filter, and change it around every two months. Quality paper filters from MANN, Knecht (OEM ones) proved to be better flowing than various tuning ones, and filter air much better. However you need to replace them after soaking (like after driving whole day ir heavy rain), and very often when operating in dusty environment (don't know how dusty is your place).

Wet type filters are kind of lottery with our MAF sensors.

I've seen the ITG panel filters have got good reviews. I'm thinking of trying a alloy airbox with a paper/cotton filter.

After all, heat soak is the enemy!!

I'll have a trawl for ITG, ta.

Does anyone know if the pipercross is an oiled filter, the ad doesn't mention oiling.

The BMC is a cotton one, these are highly rated in the biking world.

Whatever I get will be better than an old paper one eh?

They don't seem to list one.

John, the ABY and ADU filters are nigh on identical in size even though they have different part numbers. I have an RS2 K&N filter in my ABY airbox, difference is 1mm on the overall length.
The ABY part number of 191 129 620 cross refs with loads of other Audi's and even VW's.
I'm sure ITG will make one for those other models.
I can list them if needed?

                Jas..

Oh, I think the problem with oiled filters is peoples over aggresive oiling after a clean. I've never had to clean my MAF and it's had a K&N in for the 2 1/2 years I've had the car, + years previous when Alg had it.

Yeah, I've got an ABY paper filter in the RS2 box, fits ok, I've emailed ITG so we'll find out what they say. Maybe you could give me a cross ref to one of the other cars on the ITG list?

Looks like it may be a 481?

My head hurts... I had a K&N fitted into our S2 about May and it's slowly picked up a high boost misfire I'm assuming is the MAF that's dirty... I wish I'd known/thought about the K&N 'filtration oil' passing though to the MAF. I bet it's caked in there...

John, I don't have any useful suggestions about the filter for your RS2 box, but I do have a lovely Apexi cone used very very rarely in only my car... works a treat with no problems whatsoever... would you like to buy it...?

This gives you an idea of the other cars the ABY filter fits. As I'm unsure of engine codes on the VW cars, maybe someone could give one listed on the ITG site and I can look to see if it's listed in these cars below?

Thanks for that Jas... I'll be over the VAG dealers first thing for a new paper one. I might just have a K&N Cremation tomorrow night if the MAF resembles fly paper...

I don't think that filter is the problem. I have one in my car, and NO overboost cutout . BTW had that cutout sometimes before sorting out WGFV plumbing, but also made few changes in the intake (new clamps, etc.). Note, that also I've fixed one vaacum leak from breather hose to intake there was small crack. Don't blame Apex'i. .

Ian, the MAF is "supposed" to clean itself...
