  • 4032 pistons and cylinder bore

Does anyone have any experience with these type of pistons in relation to the suggested cylinder bore so that we get absolutely right the ratio and don't end up with stuck pistons or too large bores?

These have higher content of silicone and tend not to expand with heat as much as the 2618 type of pistons.

While mahle original pistons have up to or more than 20% silicone and require 0.02mm bores, these pistons I have are about 14% silicone and according to the spec sheet(JE from what I gather but pistons are made by supertech) require minimum 0.05mm and maximum 0.08mm for 82mm pistons.

Given an engine that will run max 2.5bar of boost(most likely 2bar) and be used even as a daily driver I'd like to get it right and have the minimum possible acceptable oil consumption.

Would you go for the minimum of 0.05mm or add anything to that?

I already have bought the standard oil ring set from JE with the help of AndyP which seems to reduce the oil consumption quite a bit.

Your thoughts or experience would be most welcome

      Good info!
How is his oil consumption? And did he have to do anything extra to improve on the bottom end blow by from such pistons?

Oil consumption is not very different to a healty stock steup, close to zero. He runns breather to atmosphere with an oil separator with drain back to sump. Also my baffle plate in the sump. Breathes from the stock locations, from the block and the rear of the cam cover. For the drain there is an AN12 bung welded on the front section of the oil pan.

Thuppu THomas, Do you have picture of that bung, where is located on oil pan? Is that any tray to cover that hole from the splashing oil? Thanks

Seems to be many different tastes of how to add the drain. I like to add it under the oil level and in the front part of the sump. I can't find a pic atm. But you can also do it like this:

Why not to use a OEM drain in tdi block?

Turbo drain? Yea, why not..? Only on wrong side, but with an custom setup could be done.

Edit. Or you mean the pipe on the sump? Sure, could be used. Not anything you see on gasoline version sumps.

That is also existent on th short blocks. I assume plumbing there may be a bit more tricky for a catch tank to drain back. Also I think it's always better to drain under the oil level rather than above.

Is that any problem with marked location? OR what is benefit from location into oil pan (under the oil level)

If you return the oil above the oil level once you start to get blow by you may have a reverse flow of oil to the catch tank. You can solve that by using a one way valve though.
