RS2 Engine knock developing!!

Well its just one of those months!!!
I noticed on sunday afternoon a slight knock on pickup, (just after embarassing Mr evo 5!) and now its getting worse... blip the throttle stood still and deffo crankshaft speed hollow knock from deep inside,,,, not impressed!
Hoping its a big end bearing,, as not such a big job.
Bit puzzled as to why its done it,,, its only on 80,000. full service history. Synta gold.
it is worse as the engine gets hotter...
oil pressure at tick over is 1.8 bar at 75 degrees oil temp..is this low? seems enough to me..

Fully knobbed off with the ******, i have so much soddin work to do i just don't have time for this!!!!!!

What thickness is synta gold Rob?, 1.8 at 75 degrees and tickover is lower than my cars 2.2 - 2.5 bar in that state but Im not sure what other RS2 owners see?
Sounds like time to park her up in the garage and drop the sump? ...You could also drop the oil out first and check using a magnet for unusually high amounts of metal in the old oil if you plop it in a big tray.
I found some fragments in the oil filter on a previous car I used to own when the big ends went south Hope it works out ok matey

I have a lower oil pressure reading than yours and I use 10w 60. No knocking noises though. Make sure it is the engine before you start spending.
I dont rate synta silver or gold other than for use in not so high performance cars

Its not a mounting, just a light blip, as in not enough to rock the engine on the mounts is all that needed to hear it...

Back to the trusty UR! I will strip it down on sunday, oh what a day off!

Anyone know the crank measurments? may as well have an idea on the wear..

Gold is what Audi specs for oil, ran my UR on it from day one and that has the biggest of big thrashings all its life! 95,000 since i built the engine .

Don't think its an oil type issue, but i am not ruling anything out untill i get in there!

@Rob - that is very unusual... We all know how robust the bottom end of S2/RS2 is and its barely broken in at 80k miles. Must admit I am no fan of Synta Gold either - its rather on the thin side but I very much doubt it has caused the problem.

Try pulling fault codes - the knock sensors should be picking this mechanical noise up and if it is persistent then I'd expect the ECU to store an alarm. Not 100% sure though. Is there any possibility that this noise is a misfire side-effect caused by a bad coil-pack ? Just curious of that if this problem only appeared after some spirited driving as when coils go bad they get worse with heat.

Oh also check none of the sparkplugs are loose !

Not got any loose plugs, and the noise is the same cold or hot..... coils all look ok, i know what a dieing one looks and smells like! It almost sounds like that induction noise that webers make at low revs,,,
I will try the com when i get to work...

Unfortunately does sound like a big end bearing is failing .
Similar noise that i had on my 900 turbo shortly after a flying lap of Goodwood - oil starvation rear'd its ugly head .
Was your oil level slightly low? - just scratching round for possible causes.....

level was in between min and max... plus no cornering just a thrash up a hill.

Had my race engine machinist/builder have listern today,,, he says it sounds more like piston slap. great.

not checked com but will do tonight.

After running the engine with no ancillaries,(ps pump,a,c alt) and making no difference to the noise, Out it came...

I don't know what Fritz had for brecky the day he tightend my bellhousing bolts up but ****** me they were tight!

I will try ripp it to bits in the next day or two.
