It still keeps nagging in my head... What's it like to have a 360 BHP / 480+ Nm conversion with a modern ballbearing turbo on a 3B engine in a S2? Is it quick? I assume it will be at least quicker than a standard RS2 (which is a lot heavier and have a more laggy old skool turbo).
I am talking about those conversions that still run with stock pistons, conrods and compression ratio.
But is this kind of conversion worth the 4.000+ Euro price tag (for cam, turbo, exhaust manifold, injectors, fuel pump, fuel regulator, intercooler, fitting, mapping)? Together with the additional money for the conrod bearings and steel headgasket this will aproach the 5.000 Euro... So it better has to be good and reliable then!
And reliability? I've learned from a tuner that the base engineblock is so good that even after 350.000 KM's they didn't need to replace pistons... In fact they didn't even needed to hone the bores, they just put in some new piston rings for good matter and broemm they go! This is good news as my only has done 240.000 KM's and replacing pistons and so, is over budget!
However, is it needed to replace the conrods bolts for ARP's, like they were needed on my previous Opel C20LET, or are the Audi ones decent enough even for the wanted power and torque levels?
Anyone ever broken gearboxes or differentials in this level? Or any other downsides to prevent me from spending tens of thousands of Euro's when it's too late?
