I read a test on the EVO 6 v SPORT QUATTRO ,same sort of power but the tester
remarked on how everything on the EVo was better matched ,gear ratio, power curve ect this made the in gear times unbeleivable quicker than most super cars .The computer
trickery realy made a big differance ,technology moves on the I5 is quite crude in
    comparison .

I think the main disadvantage for a 1985-1995 turbo charged cars (S2, Cossie, etc) is the turbo and also a bit in engine management and coils. I really believe that a GT28RS or GT2871 upgrade or so would be an awfull lot quicker (especially in gear acceleration) than any standard Audi I5 engine including SQ and RS2 has ever been. I am not saying the S2 has a lazy spool up, but there are now turbo's offering power AND spool up. That should make the difference... I hope!

In terms of driveline and handling the EVO remains king! You can't beat those active diffs, engine position and downforce generated by those wings...

I also dont know which Evos or Subarus you guys race, but a stage one STI (proper jap spec, not the crappy euro stuff) will easily outpull mine....
Unless i throw a huge amount of money at it I dont believe it is ever going to be genuinely quick... just reasonable for the money... I know I will never go as quick or have anywhere near as much driveability or tuning potential as say a Skyline, which ofcourse also benefits from four wheel drive (albeit a better more adjustable system)
I therefore will live with it as cheap and reasonably brisk... I do however really like it, and have enjoyed playing with it and will continue to enjoy it for a long while yet....
I drove a 750 BHP Skyine (WHP)a little while ago, this had a huge amount spent on it in just the right places, mapped for ultimate driveability... Totally and utterly a daily driver.... My eyes were opened more than you could imagine, and for the cost of a billet crank, a few small bits and bobs and a remap would put out a totally reliable 900 horse... different world...
To give you guys an idea, try a timed run on your private road ofcourse from 30 to 130MPH, this unbelievably driveable ricer easily pulls 10 seconds for this increment... try it, see how much slower you actually are.... different worlds.....as I said.....
No 900 hp skyline will ever be reliable as a daily driver IMO..
They are only a 2.6 engine (2.8 iirc if stroked) and need massive amounts of money to get to those hp levels.
Granted, they are a godlike car but still...not long term reliable at that level. Maybe 20k miles between rebuilds.
Big Hp supras (which are a better engine IMHO 2jzgte v rb26det) are pretty bulletproof with a fully built engine but they still dont expect high miles out of that engine output. Less if its drag raced.
ON a stock block the most powerful supra is 950hp and it only lasted a short time

Kind of funny actually: I have here an oldschool MaxPower where Mr Nagata of TopSecret is putting a Skyline engine in the Supra because he thinks it is better...

Whatever serious engine you're running: over 200 bhp per liter will need serious attention now and then and much budget! But some engines can handle big boost much better than other!

Per Eklund ditched the Bi-Turbo'd Subaru because it kept breaking and his new Saab with the engine which according to him is 50% too big for a 2 litre does last. Cossies with 500+ can only last with Nikasil liners, but conrods are hardly changed and Opel C20LET need rods steel cranks and block reinforcements. VW boys use TDI blocks because they are more beefier.

It seems like the Audi I5 block and crank itself can handle 250 bhp per litre with much more ease. All you have to do is spent thousands on rods and the parts to get there!

Yeah, but you try and find that being done now...there are two schools of thought on that. I have pictures where the "new" skyline the 350Z had a 2jz engine transplanted in and monstered to 900hp.

The Supra guys rate the 2JZGTE as the best I6 ever made and the Skyline brigade rate theirs...
Take a look at the drag racing stats though and then please learn what you are on about and dont quote 10 year old Max Powers..things have moved on a lot from then

Performance parts for street and track from Wide Open Throttle Motorsports. Shop by vehicle or department, price match, and expert support from people who build

Watch the media videos. And then find me a fully street legal (with stereo) 8 second /170mph 1/4 mile skyline ...you wont do...Becuase that is Supra territory

This is true, and is why the car remains his daily driver with 750 horsepower...
I have also been involved with high power supras, and anything over 500 BHP is totally undriveable in the dry and a death bringer in the damp. Not really worth bothering with.
There are many stages of tune for skylines as with any car, yes, they are 2.6 (this one happens to be an HKS billet 2.8 conversion, but it is not a stroker. I believe the engine block alone is over ten grand, with short engine being about 20000. So yes, costs qre huge, but higher power, useability and reliability are superb. Are over 600bhp I( Audis ultra reliable, without breking anything?
I will be sticking with my S2 because I like it alot, has many good points, not least I am not afraid to park it anywhere and the odd ding is not a huge problem.
Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird Turbo....undergoing major changes.....
S2 Coupe... bit easier off the line...
'03 ZX12-R daily hack.... lots of nice bolt ons...

Let's hope so! All "our" competition (both markes and tuners) are at a higher level than 10 years ago. I don't know why Nagata used this engine, but before reading that article I thought they where both extremely potential... I wander what makes them kind of 1600 bhp reliable nowadays. Special reinforced block or something?

But in the year 2006 you can find the most crazy stuff these days:
                BMW E36 with old I6 M5 engine, 1.422 bhp 1.660 Nm 402m, 7,70sec/286,85kmh
Cosworths with over 850 bhp and just over 1.000 kg
                C20LETS with over 700 bhp
Audi I5 engines over 1.000 bhp
                Supra's running over 1.600 bhp
Porsche 911's running over 900 bhp
EVO engines running over 800 bhp

And 10 years ago some of this would be unthinkable: C20LETS, they would have to break. EVO this kind of potential?

It is a very very mad world... I like it!
