Well after the disastrous attempt to get the head gasket checked kind of stumped.
The coolant level looks like it's dropping because its blowing out of the expansion tank cap.
I replaced the cap about 3 months ago with a new one and the tank 4 months ago so dont know if these would be faulty.
Could it be the water pump?Comment

My 2p Worth
Hey Jamo. Hate to say it but it sounds like you are having exactly the same nightmere as i did with my s2. Mine was running hot and i changed the fan switch water pump and thermostat only to find out that the head had blown. I would say that your head gasket has blown between the cylinder and a water channel just like mine. This in turn pressurises the coolent system with red hot exhast gasses and forces the water out of the expansion tank. This is also why she is running so hot. Dont keep running her hot or else you will warp the head. I had to have 20 thow 0.5 of a mm taken off of mine to get it true again. Its at Tom's as we speak. And yes £500 is the going rate i am sorry to say. Good luck pal and if i were you give tom a ring. PM me if you need his number.Comment

thanks mate Tom is too far away to get this work done, had quotes from Corey and MRC to get it fixed it's just time to fix it.
Phil2.0 had the same problem and is local to me and has offered some advice so i'll be speaking to him tomorrow before taking a final advice.
It's been doing this since I bought the car on and off, thought it had gone when i replaced the stat and bleed the system.Comment

O.K the car is booked in next wednesday with the same folks who replaced Phils head gasket. The head will be off to the same specialist to get skimmed.
The key things here for me are the timescales and the fact they are very local to me and have done one before only a few months back.
I was going to have the rods replaced at the same time but I need to keep costs down in reality and it can wait.
Else the car was going to go to Corey or MRC but timescale is a factor.
Not a bill I wanted
Big thanks to Phil2.016v for helping me out
