What to do if you have oil in the exhaust system?

    Hi,

Well my new RS2 turbo broke the axel

Which has resulted in lots of oil in the IC - this is fixed and cleaned

And also oil in the exhaust system. But what do I do? Do I just let it burn off or what?

Also the hole axel broke, but i did fint lots of pieces of the cold side wheel in the ic, and I found the complete axel and hot side wheel inside the exhaust system, had to dig it out with a stick. Luckly it was in one part.

    Cheers

Well it's the shaft (=axle) in the turbo, for sure.

Not sure if it's better to remove the exhaust and use some petrol to clean it out, just to be sure ....if oil catches fire it's a bigger problem I would say.

Sorry, it was the shaft the broke in my brand new RS2 turbo. This then lead to oil in the IC and the exhaust system. However, I would rather know what I should do, it would be a real pita to take of the exhaust system

I don't know if it will hurt the cats? But if not then where's the problem?
Just give it a long hard drive, make sure you burn it all off.
Might even add a bit of corrosion protection to the inside of your pipes

Oh that sucks - especially on such a recent built turbo - I would be straight on the fone to them and complain in no uncertain terms...

              Hi Paul,

Tried that, they (My german audi dealer) want the car brought to germany. This is very expensive and well very time demanding. So I just bought a new turbo instead, can waist my life arguing with some stupid audi dealer

              Cheers

Had a few cars in with turbos gone and oil in the system.
The oil is already in the cat as long as you can clear it out of the intake side(IC,IM etc) then all that needs to be burnt off is the oil thats already in the exhaust.
Depending on the amount of oil thats in the exhaust will determine how long it will take to burn off.Try jacking the front end of the car up and let gravity take most of it out and then be prepared to have a smoke trail following you for a fair few miles!!
The faster you go the quicker it will burn off!!!
If you get pulled by the police just tell them it's a diesel!!

Same problem with my old turbo. Loads and loads of oil in the exhaust. I first let it sit idling and pissing oil out f the tailpipe. Then I drove about a 100 km's nonstop before it was somewhat getting less, hehehe.
