personally when i saw it run id say it was pretty good and a tad rich on boost. about right. remember 10% in the rollers and you would be on target.

this is one of the issues with remaps. every car is different so a generic chip isn't always sucessful.

good day had and a good basepoint to move on from.

where are we putting the graphs and pics
Just to clear something up - a generic chip upgrade is absolutely fine if the car is in full health. Now of course every engine is different - some rev harder than others, have better knock resilience, slight difference in fuel pressure, MAF output etc etc so there will be potential for slight difference in performance as a result of any upgrade.

Yes a truly custom remap could extract the absolutely maximum from any given car by customising to such small details but that is for the last few % of oomf on a standard setup. Alternately a custom tuner *could* work around a faulty FPR for example with different fuel maps, but thats a slippery slope.

Such a custom job is best suited to modifed configurations with funky cams, turbos, injectors and such where its all that more important to monitor EGTs, AFRs and such... On a stock setup - you know what to expect unless there is something badly wrong with air metering, fuel delivery or ignition... Assuming all things mechanical are OK and there are no boost leaks.

im from a G60 background and the results differed so much with chips. some ECUS would never run properly. this can be down to the wiring as much if not more than the chip

not really a fan of chipping but i did have 4 good years on the G60 with them so.....

This is the Audi world and pound for pound the homefry is the arguable the best generic map you can buy.

Real time mapping is great but only necessary if you've got custom configuration and bigger turbo & cams etc.

If you've got a stock turbo then your not going to gain much from a real time in comparison.

On the rollers we've had S2 cars in the 290+ bhp running these maps

The problem is people put the chip in the car without getting the base right 1st and expect the chip to fix all problems.

If the base isn't right more boost will just magnify any existing issues.

I was really sure that my car was running great before the homefry, but then, as with all things, niggles appeared. Lambda, thermostat other little niggles.

These had nothing to do with the Homefry, but as Jamo said a homefry (or any chip upgrade/tune) will emphasise problems.

So what conclusions/diagnosis do we have at the moment?

Am I right in thinking that we are looking at either:

          a) MAF faulty

          b) Boost leak

          Anything else?

It sounds like a boost leak. More common on remapped cars obviously.
The car runs fine for years, then suddenly runs badly after being remapped. The finger quite often points at the chip tuner. The fact that ~15 year old boost hoses can hold 0.8/1.1 bar fine but not 1.5 bar is overlooked.

A boost leak test is always a good/cheap place to start anyway. Throwing new parts at a problem isn't IMHO.

              CONFIRMED

One perforated IC causing my boost leak, thus causing rich running!

I think this is the perfect excuse for sorting out a FMIC
