Why don't you bin the auto and stick a manual box in the beast? Sounds like you'd certainly benefit from having the 6 speed with all your mods and it'll handle more power than the auto. I may know someone that's got a spare 6 speed S4 box too!! :mischeif:

I admit I would love to convert it to a manual but the ‘Mrs’ would kill me, especially since the new bathroom has been in the garage for last 5 years (ish or more)

Seriously, may be next year but now I need to get the bonnet sorted (bare metal respray) and get the arches fitted at the same time this year. Then I will consider the manual box and a new MTM turbo and probably fit the ‘RS4’ type front bumper I have had in the garage for the last two years. (Big inter-cooler territory!!)

Do you have a manual box?

Does your dash show what gear you are in? Like my auto!

        Andy,

Some casual observations here, so please don't be offended. I get the impression you have a lot of money to spend on this car, but please go carefully with the 'cheque book tuners' that are out there...

I have NEVER seen a stock K24 equipped S2/4/6 hit 445Nm in any reliable fashion. To attempt that you would need to run way into the areas of high inefficiency on this little turbo - that stresses it and shortens its life. It also generates lots of hot air and needs a BIG efficient intercooler to keep it in control - which the AAN aint got.

A 'Phase 1' chip doesn't need a 3bar MAP sensor either - safe ceiling is 1.4bar maybe 1.5bar at a push which equates to 2.5bar sensor. 270bhp is about the limit on the AAN without bigger intercooler. Expect torque about 410Nm on that...

Raising RPM limits on these things needs specialist knowledge - the lads at QST are just agents for MTM products - they cant tweak anything on chips for you.

          Hi Paul,

Thanks for the advice and no offence taken.

What would be the next logical mod to the engine?
Bigger intercooler, ((And software again?) Quite prepared to not use MTM again but limited selection where I live in Kent)
          RS2 Turbo, hybrid, etc?

I would like to keep the torque as low down in the rev band as possible but I am not after a super power at all. (If it eventually sits slightly above RS2 power levels due to the cars weight, which would be OK)

I must admit, this small amount of stuttering it has occasionally, which has got slightly better since I replaced all the ignition components and the MAF, etc. could that be caused by the charge pressure being too hot when the engine is at full working temperature? It never does it when it’s cold or gradual acceleration when it’s hot. Only hot, in top gear and after a bit of gusty driving, etc. Let it all cool down for a few miles and push the pedal to the metal in the same gear and rev band and it does not do it?

I must admit, the main reason I got the different front bumper was to do the intercooler mod but I do not like the cutting I have seen to other cars front bumpers with the big intercooler mod. I was hopping to keep the car looking slightly different but it could still pass for standard, etc.

The gear box. I like the auto box and it will need a rebuild in a couple of years as it getting a bit tired. However, it would appear that it is the same box used in the S6+ which sits around 320bhp? If so, would this box be OK for the final power and torque I am after? Other wise it will end up being a manual.

Logical steps would be a good guide, etc.

Lastly, I will post the pictures of the wide (A loose term) arches on Saturday. (I will tape them to my car for the pictures)

          Many thanks,

          Andy.

            Logical Steps

I have started a new topic for the arch extensions, so I can concentrate on getting answers to some of the other questions I have asked.

But here is a taster of the pictures.
