Chaps, how does the weight of Scat rods compare to standard ABY rods and also to more expensive rods like Arrow etc?
Some ramblings:-
I'm looking at rebuilding the bottom end on mine with lightened 7A flywheel (7 to 8kg) and possibly a lighter front pulley, either 3B (minimal weight change) or custom steel (preferred option but I'll need advice on that from BDB after a reading recent thread by Tonks4x4).
I'm considering leaving the standard rods in there as they'll take my k24 setup without problems so there's no worries there and that'll save me £250 min. Also, should I ever go mad on power then I'd need to get a new clutch and would possibly go Fidanza flywheel so would need to have it balanced all over again anyway and could replace the rods then. Would prefer to spend the money elsewhere for now, possibly on having the crank lightened a bit (I know that's a bit funny on a steel flywheel but it all helps) and so was wondering if there were any other advantages with rods such as light weight over standard... unfortunatley Titanium rods are out of the question
Another option is to go to 82mm pistons on a slight overbore and thus getting a little more capacity although I'm under the impression this would cost more than the rods so might be better to just leave it... block has done 165k though so should need honing at least.
