Flat spots over 5,000rpm since RS2 turbo fitted?!

Since having the RS2 turbo fitted im getting a few flat spots over 5,000rpm. She spools up and revs fine up until then, boosting to about 1.5bar etc but then between say 5 & 7,000rpm im getting about 3 flat-spots.

When hits flat spot over 5k, boost drops right off, then back in again, then off, then in again...its so annoying. Its had a new Homefry to suit RS2 turbo on current set up (in fact, when i mentioned problem to Paul he kindly sent me another set of chips to try but still getting it).

Have been advised to get injectors pressure checked & cleaned & change Boost solanoid valve, havent done either as yet but wondered on any other possibilities?

    cheers

Bit of a strange one there... not got any pearls of wisdom I'm afraid other than the usual, check everything, check it's holdng pressure, clean everything...

I thought my car had broken the other day, turned out I'd forgotten to reattach the TPS plug

Standard ABY S2's at the mo. i know RS2 manifold, injectors,IC etc would get optimum from it but thats all to be collected and go on later in year. Why, do you think symtoms are current injectors maxing out??

Yep, only ever run Tesco 99 or V-Power. Was running fine before new turbo went on with the standard turbo and usual 280 homefry.

Is the map designed for S2 or RS2 injectors? You could fit a higher fuel pressure regulator to overwork the injectors a bit but that really is a short term fix

Map is designed for RS2 turbo running S2 injectors, have tried several chip combo's from Paul but still get same probs. dont know whether to get current injectors cleaned or get some RS2 injectors instead. Either way, could do without spending more £££ at the mo, especially if that doesnt cure it..

Get the fault codes read or do a few VAG com runs. All Audi in Bristol will be able to help if you're stuck.

As stated on PMs - this setup is critical on fuel... Needs to be 98RON or better and the fuel pump, filter, FPR and injectors must be in tip-top shape. As stated by Andy, you could run a variable FPR to give you some more headroom.

I would also renew the WGFV if its old and try a different MAF just in case. I know the chips are good on that setup.

If you are thinking of going for RS2 injectors then its different chips and a 3bar MAP setup to get the most from the RS2 turbo when its properly fuelled.

There's also the option of hardwiring the fuel pump to the battery to negate the voltage drop over the standard wiring loom.

I had a similar problem recently, turned out that one of the spark plug connectors (sits between the plugs and coils) were hosed. Check condition of plugs and the resistance of the plug connectors (should be approx 5K ohms)

may have a weak fuel pump, check codes first and pressure test
