If you're only running 0.4 bar of boost I would say the WGFV is not working, a boost leak of that magnitude would cause the engine to cut out at WOT. Find that problem first. A bad turbo would burn oil, smoke a lot or make a loud whistling noise. What the f*** is a "tired" turbo?? (ah, poor thing , its been working too hard, needs a nice lie down, feet up, drinky poos..)

A few people have fitted RS2 turbos with no other mods, you get more top end but a tendency to run lean, you really need all the other bits and a proper remap.

by tired i think he mean in general, the engines done 150k miles there was no problem with boost, there was no leak, i watched him do the test, and he also put a VAG boost guage on it to check it was boosting 0.4 bar which is what the MTM chip is designed 2 run. He also drove it on the road and said it felt as it should

I'm running a MTM chipset in my ABY. It boosts to 1.5 bar peak.
0.4bar is mechanical boost from the wastegate as John says above.

"Turbos Tired". HAHAHAHAHA. They do tend to get very very tired even pro plus doesnt work!! Sometimes they need horlicks to bring them up to scratch... Another great tip from a top tuner not mentioning the obvious.!!

Yes the MTM chips should give around 1.5 bar peak. Something's not right with your car . My K24 had done 200k miles when I took it out and it burnt less oil than a new RS2 unit.
You have to check that the Waste Gate Frequency Valve is working. To do this hook up a boost gauge and drive it WOT (floor it) you should see 1.5 bar peak at around 3000-3500 rpm. 3rd or 4th gear will do.
Make sure the throttle cable is adjusted so that the throttle butterfly opens to the stop when you floor it (but is not too tight)

I've recently changed mine to the RS2 turbo, had flat-spots over 5K but that was down to the chips i was running. Have changed back to the 280homefries and it has cured it. Was pushing 309bhp on the dyno with the dodgy chips but havent dynoed it since.

Im in the same boat, just wanted a bit more power in the interim so splashed out £300.00 for the RS2 turbo. Will do the other bits & bobs (injectors, I/C) later in year and DEFINTLEY get a live map to set it all up nicely. Im also running Samco boosts and 3" turbo back system at the mo as well.

As mentioned, if you wanna go for it its prob best to get it all done at the same time. That 0.4 bar seems a bit low to me.

0.4 bar?? Very low by the sounds of it. Definately check ur WGFV and check your intercooler o-ring. Thats a common 1 as most would agree.

by 0.4 bar, i do mean above atmospheric pressure, on my boost guage it shows 1.4bar and drops off to about .8 at redline? Ill see if i can post up the rr graphs from 3 years ago, and the one from a couple of weeks ago. As i said there is no boost leak, and Kim did say it should only be boosting to 1.4bar with no overboost as the MTM chipset is set to run on like a permenant overboost. Kim didnt try and sell me a turbo, he was happy that it was running correctly, and the difference in the 2 rr results was more likely down 2 milage..

Think you may be getting confused and you're certainly confusing us on here. If you have a proper boost guage then it will only measure boost, boost being the pressure above atmospheric pressure! If your measuring 1.4bar then that's the boost you're getting from the turbo. Would be 2.4bar if you add atmospheric ala the digital guages fitted to the S4s and S6s.

Gauge pressure is relatice to atmosphere, abosolute is relative to a vacuum. You have 1.4bar gauge pressure or 2.4 bar absolute. If it was 0.4bar gauge the car would be very slow indeed

i thought the standard s2 pushed 0.2bar ive got a guage in the center air vent at the top, and it has -1bar through 0 upto 2.5bar. At idle it sits at -1bar, vacume i assume, and when i accellerate in gear it goes up to 1.4bar on the guage. I was under the impression it only boosts 0.4bar above atmospheric?

                          - is vacuum as you say, Zero is atmospheric, 1 is a Bar of boost 1.4 is 1.4 Bar of boost. So you're getting 1.4 bar of boost on an MTM chipset which is not far off correct.

Oh, if you haven't replaced the smalll bore 'vacuum hose' that relays manifold pressure all over the place then get it sorted and use small cable ties to seal it, works a treat and can solve little niggles like this small drop in power. If the AFRs are running nearer 10:1 than 12:1 then that's a classic boost leak tell-tale. HTH

silly question, but this small bore vacume hosing, where does it go from and to exactly? Is there any particular tubing i should replace it with?
