my pump is on an working now. some gasket paste, a mini grinder, yes on a 200 odd quid pump. and all is well. my 110k german pump is still around. never had an issue but presumed i was better off fitting a new one in the build. still not sure if it was a good idea or not but ive had an oil pump obn my G60 fail before now.
FYI for anybody fitting a new oil pump

The dust looks like residual grinding dust, aluminium oxide, the 2nd hardest substance known to man (Corundum Al2 O3), surface grinder wheel material. Light grey colour, and spatter deposited--a serious engine killer. It would be like putting Carborundum paste (Valve grinding paste) into your oil.Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.--:Albert EinsteinComment

When you re-assemble the pump make sure the dimple in the outer gear drive can be seen...lhs in the picture. If it goes in the other way the ring will not sit down fully and will be clamped tight by the outer plate.

Priceless!!Why cant we get oil pumps built in Germany ?
If I wanted ****ing Korean parts I'd have bought a ****ing Hyundai or some other pissashid Korean crap.
PS - I am NOT racist - I just have no time for Japanese or Korean cars - never have - since I was a nipper I could tell they had as much soul as Dolly Parton.

After reading some of the horror stories on here about grit in new oil pumps I decided to strip mine and check it out. Thankfully it was spotless inside, I gave it a good wash with solvent cleaner and rebuilt it with assembly lube.
Could this be the reason?

Made in good old Germany, not Korea! and it had a real oil seal in not a dummy.sigpic
