s2 std engine how much power?

Am thinking about a little project now so am interested in knowing some power figures and the q´s are:

How much can the std. parts take, hp and rpm wise?

    Block?

    Cranck?

    Rods?

    Pistons?

    hydraulick lifters?

    Valve springs?

    oilpump?

this is genuine questions and really want some genuine answers

    this

is the question with the most answers i think.
Depends on if its aby or 3b, the safe answer would be, about 380 ca for both engines, but about 420nm for 3b and 450-500nm for the aby without new internals.

But then again there is always those who have run more power and torque, and gotten away with it, and still do. Know of some from sweden and norway.
Norwegian 10vt running 502hp 607nm on stock internals it lastet the season 2002-2003 almost.

so hey anything goes, if you have money, and arent afraid of work.

Change rods and you have a engine capable for 600hp+
      Its a cheap insurance

Ok so keeping the std block and cranck but upgrade the rods and pistons you should have a bullit proof engine capable of 600+bhp?

Essentially - yes... Solid lifters would be needed on something revving more than 8000rpm but thats just a detail.

          These engines are amazing !

Now you'll need a lot of bolt on goodies to get 600bhp but there is little to worry the engine internals.

I am in the progress of rebuilding a 3B. I´l try to get close to 400 bhp. Will the original pistons hold or do i have to change those as well? The rods are will of course be changed. It´s gonna be used as a daily driver and not a trackmonster.

OEM pistons are good for high BHP so do not worry about pistons unless you need a rebore than it is worth considering an alternative.

what alternatives would you suggest for pistons. I like that the Mahle ones dont slap but they are very expensive to get them at custom sizes.

and in the 3b´s engines for more than 300hp it´s very reasonable change the rod bearings for install the aby/adu ones

400bhp easy for factory pistons and rings.

A good intercooler is highly recommended on such a spec.

High torque levels will need the later RS2 spec big-end bearings and of course forged rods are highly recommended if running high boost levels in the mid range.

The 3B would have left the factory with a paper head gasket... Long since replaced by the superior metal version on late AAN, the ABY and RS2.

Only other thing to be cautious of on the 3B is the dreaded spark hop. Make sure the distributor drivetrain, rotor arm and dissy cap are in full health.

My previous post eluded to some of this...

                        ABY had stronger big-end bearings
                        ABY got metal head gasket

Thats really it - only other changes worth noting are the timing belt and water pump but those aren't internal of course.

                          Hi!
I have AAN motor. What I need to change of motor internals to be sure that the motor will not be blow out. I expect to go for 450-500hp.
I read that it's only need to change the rods and pistons for 500hp and motor can work without problems. Is that thru?

                            id say so.

you will be pushing it a little at 500 but its there.

i changed the rods and skimmed the piston to lower compression slightly.

i think that a good 420hp is possible from the standard engine including cams and inlet. the work for this and more though is around the exhaust and turbo. get thouse gases out easily to avoid high egt

Pistons don't need to be touch they are good for insane amount of BHP, the only real reason to change them is if you need a rebore.

Buy a compression reducing head gasket to take the CR to 8.5 and they are good.
