    Boost Leak!

Just doing a pressure test to make sure everything is running as it should as i had a few boosting issues since the RS2 upgrade. On my RS2 intercooler there is a little nipple on the side, i think aelred said it was for water injection. That is leaking pressure, everything else sounds fine. How can i block the nipple off?
    Thanks

Can it be unscrewed? If yes then take it out and replace it with a bolt and a copper washer or similar.

      Wot he sed

You might find that it's a screwey imperial size so perhaps re-tap and use a metric bolt instead. Apply a little sealant / threadlock / PTFE tape too so you can fit and forget

Other option is to get it alloy welded but doesn't sound like it's worthwhile here...

Ok thanks. Will a little leak like that make a big difference? My boost problems are, it will boost up to 21psi then cut back to about 5psi then take off again to 21psi?

Sounds like overboost protection is kicking in, can be due to a dodgy MAF too.

Sounds a bit strange. Might be worth trying another ECU or checking the vacuum pipes inside the ECU in case they have been disturbed (although I'm sure Paul was careful it's still worth a look).

Are you sure none of your other vac lines are leaking? Have you replaced it all with 4mm silicone hose already?

No still on the standard boost hoses and vac line. Possible the hose running up to the boost gauge has been disturbed would that have the same affect?

Any leaking vac lines could course that to happen, I would replace them all. If you want i can send you some blue 4mm vac hose as i just bought 5m of it and only used 2.

                    Cheers.

Thanks Bo. To be honest i dont even know what hoses are the vac hoses in the engine bay I just tried sealing the nipple ill see if that does anything

Jubilee clip a bit of tubing to the nipple then block the end of the tubing with a bolt and another clip.

If you want to pop round at some point Steve I'll show you which hoses are the ones to worry about. A small leak can cause a lot of trouble on these cars, mine had a leak where the vac/boost line joins the ECU, made the boost come and go, the car run rich and worst of all made my car slower than Andy's!
