Audinut, may Anton it´s selling one DSY 6 speed gearbox, and with it you must go more reliable for a big power car.... ask him

I think i ate 4 gearboxes and one v8 diff. Then i sold the car and he killed 2 gearboxes i think.
IMO, the car handled better with stock rear diff, v8 made it very twitchy and scarey cornering hard, especially in the wet. You dont always want to drive sideways when you stab the throttle.

I put 430hp through my 3B, 150k miles when Tom rebuilt it with forged rods

Unfortunately I didn't cover many miles with that power but had no issues with the gearbox. I was planning a 6-speed conversion when it gave out though

Check out my project thread, 3B on stock internals. http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30017

I have changed headgasket to new metal and I have also done the 6 speed 01E conversion after thrashing the syncro rings in two 5 speed 01A boxes.

I have done 35000km now on stock internals with 355 WHP

My ADU has the same bottom end as the 3B, and at 2.1bar on E85 it has more than 410whp and 550+nm at the wheels. This should translate to close to 500hp and 700nm at the crank. Due to the properties of ethanol and a sensible ignition map, along with the complete absence of detonation means peak cylinder pressures are not excessive.
Excessive cylinder pressure kills bottom ends, not horsepower or torque. A very aggressive ignition map can produce two to three times as much cylinder pressure as the same torque level produced by upping boost instead of timing.

This poor guy bent his rods at standard 220hp:

The rods did probably not bend from too much power, and they did probably not bend from too much torque. They probably bent from too much cylinder pressure, due to the 3B distributor ignition firing off at the wrong moment. The chance of misfire/spark hop increases exponentially with higher cylinder pressures, and this has given the stock bottom ends an unjust reputation that they only handle around 400hp. Fix the real problem (ignition) and the limit is much higher. 16v turbos use the same rods and have seen 500+whp with no problems. That load per rod equals well over 700+ crank hp on an I5.
