    Supercharged S2 engine - Audi 90 transplant

    Hi there guys.
I'm new to this site and looking for some advice please.

Currently looking to start an 90 quattro s2 engine conversion. Want it to be a budget daily hack/ occasional track tool. looking for around 400hp. Been advised the usual route to 400bhp is rs2 exhaust manifold, k26 hybrid or gt30, good exhaust, good intercooler, big injectors and fuel pump and remap.

I was thinking of supercharging the S2 lump. Done a bit of research into this yesterday and found a Jag XKR charger. Runs at 12psi and pulley upgrade 15psi max due to charger temp. Anyone any ideas? Apart from fabrication issues, i think it would be a good project. Good ol ebay!

Let me know your thoughts/ issues with this?

HP Loss due to timing adjustment: 0
Est. flywheel HP with supercharger: 465.5085
Est. rear wheel HP with supercharger: 372.4068
Total HP Gain: 235.5085 flywheel HP
    Percentage Gain: 102.395 %

    Many thanks.
    James

Not seen many SC conversions as the turbo is already on there, doesn't mean that it's not an interesting project though. Motorgeek forum might help more as there might be a few SC projects on there. Good luck with it

Am no specialist but in order to get my former S2 to 400bhp, my boost pressure had to be 28psi so I don't see how 15psi will get an S2 lump to 400bhp or is the airflow much higher with a blower ?

And no offence but a blower will take power from the engine before giving any back so is it such a great idea ?

that will be me then from what ive looked into it the jag charger will be the M90? or M112 cant remember which but this is a massive charger built for cc of 4litre and above ive got the M62 from a 2.3 merc and it would flow almost the correct rate for the 5pot to make around 1bar of boost from very low rpm all of the above are eaton chargers. i did look into others such as lysholm and screw style chargers but they are difficult to find second hand and expensive (especially the lysholm style the same as what goes on merc slr's:mischeif

mounting shouldnt be too difficult i plan for mine to be down below where the power steering pump is as didnt want to mount it near the exhaust.

            Thanks for the replies...
Yes I appreciate the charger will rob the power. Midnightblue, the charger I was looking at was an eaton m112 and I think that might be just a little too bit. It's off the 4ltr Jag so I think thats a little ambious on my part. Probably just blow the engine to pieces!

I wanted to fire my ideas out and see what I got back.

If I run an S2 lump at 28psi, its probably cheaper and easier than fitting a charger and faffing around.

Lag!! A supercharger set up would nye on elimate bad lag and the way I want mine set up is so that the blower gives bottom end grunt and let the cams do the top end work

I see where you've slipped up you entered 220 bhp as your base amount, an S2 engine with out it's turbo would probably put out approx 160bhp, this is the figure you need to start with.

Even then I still somewhat doubt that calculator's accuracy, it will only be able to give a generic figure accurate to something like +-15%.

Copied and pasted from the site you linked too.

                      Existing horsepower: 160 flywheel HP

                      Planned level of boost: 14

                      Planned fuel octane rating: 100

                      Intercooler / Aftercooler 3-Core

                      Estimated Results:
HP Loss due to timing adjustment: 0
Est. flywheel HP with supercharger: 306.3632
Est. rear wheel HP with supercharger: 245.09056
Total HP Gain: 146.3632 flywheel HP
                      Percentage Gain: 91.477 %

Agreed! The figures are not achievable...a 7A would be a better engine to Supercharge - if thats what you want - low end power.
Turbocharging and Supercharging is an extremely difficult art, because the Supercharger at high revs, becomes a restriction in the system and dealing with the transition between the Turbo and S/C is beyond the capability of even, extremely competent mechanics

                          Ah..
Glad I found this site. Thanks for your help and advice on this.

Right then, back to the turbo charger then. 400bhp.
                          Whats the best way?

                          RS2 turbo? Gt30 turbo?

                          Fuel pump? Which one?

                          Thanks again!
