  • Turbo after run pump switch

After a lengthy discussion with Mark H and MartinJS about the after run pump never coming on I did some investigating of lower rated switches that could be used.

I found one from a mid-nineties LT van that has a temp rating of 90/75º (The standard switch has a rating of 110/97º)

I've got one of these fitted on mine now and it works a treat. The pump doesn't run if it's only a short journey but does switch on when the engine has been run at operating temp.

It's not a straight swap as you have to change the connector to fit the new switch. This isn't a problem though and the new connector is a lot better protected from water ingress etc.

    Part numbers are as follows:

    Switch-----281 919 521 B--£18.80

    Connector--357 972 752----£ 4.03
    Contacts---000 979 133----£ 0.99
    Grommets---357 972 741 A--£ 0.40ea (x2)

All the prices are retail and include VAT.

Hope this is useful especially for the big power guys on here.

My engine is currently in pieces due to a cam belt change. At the same time I replaced my faulty afterrun temp switch. I've replaced it with a FAE-switch that has a temp rating of 105/95 °C, so it's somewhere in between the stock and that LT one. The switch is a straight swap (including connectors) and the part nr. is FAE-3547.

I'll get back to you on how it works, once I'll get the car up and running.

A few of us did the same mod mark did, yestyerday at Billling, and put a fuse aacross the terminals of the switch so it comes everyime you switch off for 10minutes.

I noticed a lot of guys on the US forums do this - some put a switch in parallel to the temp switch so they can flick that off in winter when they don't want it always coming on.

FAE-3547 with 105/95 does not bring winter problems.

here in Greece these temps are way too high.I fitted my switch for temps: 90/80C so that it will keep the engine always cool

tested my after run pump the other day @ corey's place after i fitted new rocker cover gasket, mfts, wgfv and new thermostat
i can get the pump to run if i short the wires out have not checked if it works when hot yet,the fan came on @ half speed, but now it stays on all the time ,

i have checked to see if the thermo switch has short circuited
which it has n't the only way i can get the fan to stop is to remove relay 214 in the engine bay, have any of you guys got a circuit diagram for this
and also for the heated wing mirrors please

There is another relay located in the passenger footwell behind the kick panel, common failure item, on the Urs6 it's located in the same place but on the drivers side along with the fuse for it. Most times they fail such that the fan stays on thus flattening the battery btdt on my old S4. myS6 pump rarely kicks in and i have replaced the thermo switch on the coolant rail, i suspect i need a new relay. alhtough i like the sound of a different sender with a lower rating.

The relay 214 in the engine bay is not the actual relay for the after run pump.
