    Help Required... Running Issue....

Need some advice on a running problem I had tonight.....

Was driving home tonight on the motorway, cruising at about 60 in 4th gear doing about 3500 RPM.... put my foot down HARD - as to the floor... car picked up nicely then VIOLENTLY lost all power for a second or two and then picked up again....

Put my foot down hard again and she did the same thing.... Pulled off at next junction and the car was running fine Oil pressure OK, temp OK...

Gently reved the engine and pulled nicely .... Put foot down hard again and it stuttered VIOLENTLY again... cruised home gently as I didn't want to make it any worse and under medium acceleration she pulled well, could feel the turbo working...

Got home lifted the bonnet and couldn't see or hear anything unusual looked at the boost hoses all SEEMS OK....

Stopped her and she restarted fine... I had to drive to Lincoln and was thinking about taking the golf instead... but thought I would risk taking her, but with a light right foot in place... She did it there and back without it happening again... but when I did push her a little harder she "spluttered" at around 4k in 4th and 5th....

Other issue don't know if its related but I'm only getting 18mpg....

    Running Homefries... Mark H Mod...

    Any suggestions please....

I will VagCom her tomorrow.... to see if there are any issues...

Has to be a small boost leak or possibly a dirty maf connector. Classic S2 symptoms.

Sounds like boost cut due to leak or over boosting. What is you gauge saying?

Boost leak or pipe has popped off, happened to me once day I was taking the Avant off the road for the engine swap, scary fixing hoses in the inside lane of a dual carriage way as the car wouldn't move!

Coilpack is my guess. Mine did the same until I changed the coilpacks. You could drive normal and it wouldn't miss a beat as soon as you gave it a boot full it would do that.
Just some finishing touches to do now

First thing I would do is unplug the MAF and reconnect it a few times to clean the contacts.
Either that or a boost leak

I was thinking something along these lines....

As she runs sweetly untill you hit it HARD...

But will check for a leak too... But all the small hoses have been replaced in the engine bay...

You may also want to check the condition of your coil packs, boots and plugs. Had a similar problem once with my 20LET - as soon as it came on boost the power disappeared. Turned out to be a faulty spark plug.
