Did a test today driving on the highway to work. Made it up to lite bit above 700 degrees. Had the car running at about 200km/h fifth gear around +5k rpm, about 4-5 km. So I seem to be below the threshold .

Well then I blew a hose/pipe coupling. It popped right off, barely made it to work after at pushing the hose all crumbled up in/over/outside the pipe (did not manage to get it on correctly) At least I know what to do with my lunch

      EGT measurement

1050°C is THE upper limit for a turbo according to people from Garrett. This is of cource measured before turbo or in the turbo itself. Note that it may be safe for the turbo but dont forget your pistons! They will also melt at a certain temperature causing massive enginefailure...
The cast iron exhaust manifolds (S2/RS2) are not so easy to install a egt-probe into. One alternative you could consider is to install the probe in the turbo itself - see attached picture.

Thats what i did, but to get an accurate reading it needs to be in the main gasflow, due to the restrictions of where it can be located pre turbo i fitted it in the neck of the WG pipe on the EM and as tom and doug have mentioned i had some problems with them breaking up.

Personally I think in the downpipe is fine since an approximation can be taken for EGT temp difference from either side of the turbo.

Also with the EGT temps from what I have read its not the turbo's limit that can be in question but the exhaust valves in the head instead.
