Interesting idea on the monster injector 'safe' map - presumably with a surge friendly boost profile as well. I would need a local car to play with - or cough for a set of 650s into mine to see how much pain is involved to get something running nicely. Do you really think there is much interest for that on its own just as an interim setup before custom mapping or is maybe more useful to have as a safe mode in a multimap ECU ?

E85 is a tougher nut for all the reasons you mention... The injector size issue can be worked around with higher fuel rail pressure but that aint ideal and is what I was eluding to about this not maybe being possible as a pure software upgrade - unless someone invents a software configurable fuel pressure regulator that you could interact with somehow. Way beyond my scope

Paul, just to let you know that the gt2871r on my car eats maf sensors. That's 3 now in 20 k miles. And each new one gives a slightly different afr at wot. Motronic has its limmits and I think chipped rs2 is about it. At least for long term daily thrashing. The hot wire gets sucked off one end of the sensor. That's at about mid 400hp ish. When I tried putting the maf after the intercooler the hoses wouldn't stay on. Would need some real weird bracket / clamp setup. Too much hassle and untidy.

So I now have vems. Just in process of setting up now. with wideband feedback its great. Also switching maps for different fuels etc.

If I were you I would only goto 400 ish HP on your maps as the maf is a real ballake above this. Plenty of rs2 and smaller garrett and kkk stuff on cars happy at that level. I know loads of folk will say Mr x can do 500 HP + on motronic. But for how long? 3 maf sensors can't be wrong. And as the sensors seem so variable at that level of flow the afr keeps changing. And as motronic has no wideband feedback its just a mater of time till someone melts down. Then its " my engine broke on your map " time.. you really don't need that crap.

      Cheers des

I´m very interested in the dual map option but as i don´t yet know what the end spec will be on the engine i haven´t contacted you. Is it possible to get the ecu prepared for dual maps, which then can be modified locally in Sweden?

400 is on the edge for MAFs alright... I would like to go with HFM as an alternative to keep with Motronic, but again it requires a good deal of research and headaches to solve for profiling that properly. Its on the list for things to do but you know how the story goes.

WB feedback would be sweet alright - that is a nice feature from VEMS.

          Cheers,

That's not really possible because the hot-switchable stuff is done after chips are programmed. Another cool idea would be some sort of FLASHable module that emulated factory chips - would need to be very small and neat though as space is limited. Non trivial stuff...

                    Paul,

Just asked Rusty about this yesterday

I'm not so interested in switchables, like to have the power there all the time and use my foot to modulate. But I think it's a great option to have if one should desire it - particularly with higher power cars.

A more agressive homefry is definitely what I'd like in the interim, something with a bit more bite but not uber agressive. Perhaps V-stream is worth a try for me, or x-stream with a 0.9bar spring...

Going longer term, I don't want to go down the garrett route again - I'm looking at that 'ultimate' RS2 hybrid option, as a good budget intermediate with quick spooling and ~350hp. Hoping to have everything lined up to do it next spring or early summer. Currently holding me back from deciding 100% on that route is the mapping issue, if you could fill that gap then I'd be game!

                    Cheers

I think an rs2 turbo in conjunction with stiffer spring could be a nice option. Then you get the upside for 370-390bhp, as much torque as you want on stock rods plus a whole lot less lag. In the meantime, you could borrow Andys ecu for a taste of vstream.

the way i see it paul is the interim is a subset of a full map.

if you have interim, you can have a full map too. a map for gettin moving to the tuner is only a limited ful map.

on the maf front. we used to have the same issues with the subaru's. most aftermarket for them required the maf. we used LINKECU becuase it didn't and it was designed for subaru.

another subaru part here. is this of use to you paul for big tuning. always seems that the only way is mafless with big hp due to the blowing cost.

I'm a bad influence at the best of times.

From an observer's point of view, something like Bo's car is the ultimate S2 with the wrung-out RS2 spec and sorted bottom end, almost all bolt-on so minimal custom work, 380bhp and few worries (except the clutch ). The other car I like at the mo is Nip's car, something along the same lines but with a kkk26/7/9 and a few more ponies. GTs are great for power and are undoubtedly better technology but they can be fragile and seem to cause the odd problem with things like the breather system, bigger turbos are naturaly faster in a straigh line but 6 years' experience on here has shown that 350-400bhp is reliable on these cars for sure. That said, some RS2 turbos seem to have been right dogs... best to get them from a reputable source with a warranty.

You want to be rather careful there, the spring is uncompromising and any boost (thus torque) that the turbo can produce will be there, instantly up to the point where the WG opens (I can calculate this for you to good accuracy ). Not sure what boost is safe on the RS2 turbo but better to research that one thoroughly, hopefully 1.2 bar gauge is fine, it's the boost profile after that that will need investgation. Could be rather amazing if done properly, none of the factory lag of the RS2 spec and all of the 360+bhp capability of that turbo on even a standard car

why dont people like the garrett route? 2871/3071 even 2876 may be options replacing the RS2 turbo, which not only can produce the same amount of torque(maybe less to save some rods from bending if that is the case), can still produce more hp and hold boost longer AND if treated respectively (within map) as they are BB, they should last a lot longer than the service time of an rs2/s2 turbo.

Obviously the price of the stock ones is lower nowdays, but if you consider that these will be running at their top end of their map, and have journal bearings, maybe they might start requiring service much sooner. The extra cost of labour/service could be equal in going the BB route. Esp, now with the precisions becoming an option, comps are there already...

I would save up and get paul to make a map for those turbos(if i were still using motronic that is)
