i dont think they have maps for their turbos as is the case with every small company that produces turbos; they mix and match parts of either their own production or bought parts from other big turbo factories according to their spec. then they assemble it. i dont think they design the impellers themselfs in order to have the means and equipment to make their own compressor maps.

Thnx guys..I will look at the dyno sheets of a few others to compare and of course if anyone else has experience they can share will help.
I looked at the Precision 5857, any one have any experience with this turbo, looks like it spools fairly well and makes 550HP.The Red Baron

with the 0.63ar it should spool ok.
i think though that the 0.82ar on the precision turbos increase the lag as much as the garretts do. I think i have seen a few dyno sheets on different cars and im not really impressed. Maybe they can produce slightly more hp, but as far as spool and lag is concerned, they dont seem to be that better as they advertiseComment

Thnx A80, There's quite a good comparison for what I'm looking for on Motorgeeks and looks like the PTE 5857 BB is a sensible choice.
So here we go. Hank, Javad and I have been brewing this up for a few months and it finally came together on Thursday 5/27/2010. The goal: Compare the new billet wheels on the HTA turbos to there traditional counterparts. There is a lot of speculation out there, lots of data on Evo's, but...
However no one has yet done a comparison using the GTX range. For those of you who understand the use of billet wheels and design , would the GTX range be much different from the HTA?The Red Baron

I would say that they will be the same if the AR trim and wheels are the same. Personally i like better the primary and secondary wheel design instead of the GTX design.
At this point even if I admire the big truck turbos I would suggest you go for a Comp turbo (spec'd near the 3076 you are looking at) with a Billet compressor impeller. I would even save me the cost of ball bearing and get with 360 thrust bearing. You will have a superb turbo for great money.Last edited by Billman; 1 December 2010, 08:00.Go Holset or Go RS4Comment

Only experience I have is with oldskool cast wheel.
Starts at 1.5bar / 3300, still surges with 1,8bar at 5500. Above 5500, no surge.
This was with reclocked adu cams and ported head.Everything less than 2 bar is considered to be naturally aspiratedComment

why is the 3076R billet HTA dropping off so quickly? mine holds 1.95bar on 3d gear and 2bar on 4th without issues. I believe with head porting it will hold even more. No wonder the power from that turbo is not as good
i think a lot has been done to underestimate the 3076R since it has been the turbo of choice for so long.Comment

If you see the diagram the cast 3076 drops sooner. Maybe the programmed the pressure like this.why is the 3076R billet HTA dropping off so quickly? mine holds 1.95bar on 3d gear and 2bar on 4th without issues. I believe with head porting it will hold even more. No wonder the power from that turbo is not as good

With head porting since the engine will be able to breath more air there are 2 issues that maybe occur:
1. The compressor will be out of it's efficiency trying to provide that amount of air
2. If the compressor can supply that air maybe the turbine wheel will become a big restriction.
Don't know if the one or the other applies, it's just a thought.Go Holset or Go RS4Comment

with the 0.82ar there shouldnt be a problem.
on a 2.0T audi recently they were pushing the 0.63ar GT3076R up to 2.2 to the redline without problems. Of course thats 4cyl instead of 5cyl engine but i think that there shouldnt be a problem.Comment

According to Paul's spreadsheet at 2 Bar on the stock engine and above 5500 you are outside the efficiency map. Of course there are deviations but at 7000-7500 RPM and 2 bar you are far off the efficiency.
2 bar at 7500 rpm are 63lbs/min and the better the engine flows the far out you are going to be.
the 2 litre engine (with same VE as our) is at 2 bar at 55 lbs/min also much near the efficiency island.Attached FilesGo Holset or Go RS4Comment

Yes, 63lbs/min equals 630ish hp, not with that compressor, unless using jungle juice and serpent soup as fuel. 550hp from 2.0l then again sounds perfectly possible.
Also, there is enormous difference, if there is overlap in the I5 engine cams and the 2.0 doesn't.Everything less than 2 bar is considered to be naturally aspiratedComment

Repo, All those turbo's fall off quickly because of the tune. Those test comparisons one motorgeek of the HTA turbo's to plain gt turbos was only done to show spool characteristics. The overall peak hp of those turbos should be discarded. We choose not to change the tune at all between the turbos in order to rule out that variable. This was all on pump 91 octane in California. We wanted to see where we had ~28psi, thus the reduced advance after the torque peak.
The PTE 5857 was tested weeks after the initial hta testing with a .63 housing, and there was a significant amount of mapping done, and that is the reason for the better top end. I hope that helps. Let me make it clear that both the HTA turbo's (30r and 35r size) make significantly more power than those graphs suggest. My personal URQ on the HTA35r is knocking on 600whp on e85 at 35psi and power from 4200-8500.
The PTE 5857 is a neat turbo, as is the Comp offering, but for those willing to pay for the HTA turbos, they spool faster, and make more power.. They are King for a few more weeks until the EFR turbos hit the shelves.
Hope that helps.Last edited by URQguy; 2 December 2010, 08:19. Reason: Posting at 1 in the morning yields spelling errors1981 URQuattro with the TIAL GT35r.
