Vibration Damper i would say no given that its £382!! lol

The pulley you quoted tho i would say not in my opinion, but others may have reasons to change it, ive not done the timing belt etc before so dont know if this may have some kind of wear or distortion over time and use.

oh so i could change the pulley and leave the vibration damper?or the pulley doesnt make a difference anyway and should only be changed if damaged?

For what it does i wouldnt change it. As I see it, its like changing the pulley on your alternator now the car has done x amount of miles.

When I start the car from cold there is a tappety rattling sound coming from the front of the engine where all the belts are?
              Could this be it?

This pulley should always be replaced at the same time as a belt change, they crack due to people not undoing/tightening the crank bolt correctly (usually cracks by holding the pulley via the brakes/transmission).
The original item is more than capable of doing it's job if they are treated as a service item.

Wow! that price tag is a little high!

I think Corey is right in saying that the OEM one is more than up for the job as long as it changed with every belt change..
£170 for that is a bit excessive IMO.
