    AAN cambelt change

right people as my G40 sensor has failed recently putting the kibosh on my trip to the ring, i have decided to change the cambelt on my URS4 as the pulley has to come off anyway and the belt is due to be changed aswell, but first a couple of questions

    1) what bits do i need to do this job? obviously the belt itself but what other things should i change while im at it e.g. water pump, other belts etc.

    2) is there a locking tool that i can buy that will fit both my aan engine and as it will also need to be done during the resto my aby engine in the s2

    3) what ar the torque values for all of the associated nuts and bolts like the cam pulley bolt etc.

cheers for all the help peeps

Water pump is relatively inexpensive from AUDI.

Have you seen Paul's guide: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27311

The ABY and AAN crank locking tool is interchangable. Well sorry the modified 3b one that I borrowed worked on my ABY and AAN.

Its a lot easier on an AAN than ABY, you dont have to remove the pas pump or drain coolant and remove the rad. Bumper and slam panel off then just undo the rad mount at each side then pull it forward a few inches and rest it on a few bricks or something. Lock the serp belt tensioner open then take out the 3 mounting bolts and remove it, then the serp belt can come off. Then you can access everything. 2hrs if that from start to finish.

URS4boy will no doubt have a link with a precedure specifically for the AAN.

Har dee har har. 2 hrs? For a first timer? You're dreaming. But hey....

The procedure that I used was written by a Mr. Fred Munro (Canadian fellow). Very detailed, worked a treat. Please see attached (the website where it lives is giving me "unsafe" warnings so I won't link you to it, just see the attached).

cheers for the replies people but at the torque of the crank bolt i think i will have to borrow one of works torque wrenches for that as i dont have one that will get anywhere near that

You dont need a 450Nm torque wrench.........
just go to the lower level stated in my guide - then use a big trusty swing bar on 3/4" sockets to go thru the angles needed to finish the job - is in the guide as well.

yes most important part of the job, whoever did the cam belt on my s6 (prior to me owning it) wants ****ing stringing up.they obviously didnt torque it up correctly as it came slightly loose.Took me a while to find out why the car wasnt boosting etc.The woodruff key was cracked and was 0.3mm narrower than it should have been due to the movement of the pulley.

If you can get one from work get a 3/4'' torque wrench (with the 27mm socket) makes the job childs play.

I got one of these off ebay brand new for £80,normally over £300

apart from the g40 sensor (in the post so should do that over the net few days) the cambelt has now been succesfully been changed in a grand total of a day and a half, i found the job itself very easy it was all the faffing around moving all the other bits out of the way that was a pain in the proverbial

There are PNs for 3 pin plugs and a hint about using a VW Jetta/Golf 3 pin O2 sensor plug in this G40 Cam Position Sensor Post

Note: I have incorporated the photo of your crumbled plug into the above post. I trust you don't mind (I gave you credit).
