I am guessing it might be because it is not such a good match.
This is just my observation from tuning two of these. YMMV.

Knock will be an issue for us when mapping as we cant get proper 98 fuel over here, we both use E5 as a substitute. As this will be Davids daily driver using any additives or octane booster isnt really an option. Weather this influences turbo choice i dont know?

K26/27 is easier to fit, but I wouldn't use the k26 hotside of the 034 unit on the garrett hybrid because after seeing the quality of the original garrett part, it is much better. I think you can modify the k26 to fit a T3, but I may be wrong.

Because the 3071/K26's I have mapped tended to be very knock prone for some reason...

If you have a KKK manifold, stick a K26/K27 on it and save yourself the ball ache.
The existing oil and water lines will bolt right on, it will work with the airbox etc.

The MAF-turbo hose you can get from 034 I guess.

Your clutch should be fine then, thought you had a std. one.
    Same goes for fuel pump.

What does a "if there is no fuel pressure taper" mean.

Embarrssed, forgot to include that macanmar fitted a 044 pump to the car a while ago while the block was with JP. I've gone back and added it to the spec list post.

Can I use the std S2 ABY fuel presurre regualtor or does it need to be changed and to which one / part number ?

Clutch is a South Bend Stage three one with a metal face on one side and an organic side on the other, Marc in EFI Express would be able to confirm the exact one if he reads this thread ?

Note what you say about the K26 / 3071 hybrid, but interested to know why you don't recommend them ?

You're right about the Wagner Exhaust manifold, the one I have is for a kkk, so would have to swop it for a T3 one.

Presumably even though 034 are dearer, they would be able to supply the correct new lines kit for the 3071 ? Or is there someone in the UK to contact ?

Would probably cut up an S2 air box to work with the 3071, couldn't cut up an RS2 airbox. Or use a non oiled cone filter and some ducting to "fence off" the cone filter from the rest of the engine bay.

"you will need a maf-turbo hose with bigger opening for turbo", where would I get one of these ?

RS2's are way too small. 440cc's should be enough for a 3071R at 4 bar, if there is no fuel pressure taper. Stock fuel pump won't work.

Your clutch won't hold as well, you need a SRE pressure plate at the very minimum.

Also, what manifold do you have? I don't recommend 3071/K26 hybrids. If you have a KKK manifold, stick a K26/K27 on there.
If you can get a T3 manifold, then you will need custom water and oil lines.

With a 3071R the RS2 airbox just barely fits, but some modifications are needed.
The inlet is bigger than standard, you will need a maf-turbo hose with bigger opening for turbo.

    Vasilis,

    Heard of these.

How does one work out the appropriate the size of the injectors to use ?

Aren't there adaptors to buy to be able to use them on our engines ?

Where does one buy the injectors and the adaptors from ?

Approximate cost of both items ?

I see that RS2 injectors are for sale at approximately £150 to £180 gbp on here.

    Thanks.

I maxed out my 440cc injectors. I wouldn't use anything else than EV14 now, perhaps the 52lbs ones

    All,

    After reading the posts, I'm thinking of a GT3071 with a .63 ?

While this would not give me ultimate power potential of the engine's spec, but should be a good "spooler" with good early'ish boost, together with strong mid range, not too concerned about power after 6,000 rpm.

At least that what I think at the moment, not having driven it, or any other B4 /C4 with similar spec / power.

Second choice would be an RS2 turbo hybrid for reasonable early spool and strong mid range.

Am I correct in my synopsis ?

P.S. - Forgot to mention the question of injectors

Any comments / suggestions to match one of the above turbos ?

    Thanks for you patience.

Have you driven or been in a car that has 400 bhp there a major difference between turbo response and full spooled boost and you need to out and experience these cars rather than from the online quotes of power and response as they are not the same
    Jamo,

Agreed, I am at a disadvantage not being able to ride in a suitable car, not withstanding Diesel Des' offer.

Hopefully the advies on here will allow me to use this thread as a work around.

Can you expand what you're referring to in your second paragraph above. Can't quite cop what you're getting at.

    Thanks.

Dont worry Error, even the 600Nm (not 677=500ftlb) are quite enough to get the adrenaline moving.

I think the velocity in which you reach the high torque is what makes a big difference as well.

    you have to aim high

I thought a RS2 turbo would do it, while screaming its nuts off about to blow up?

But it won't matter, you will use exactly the same gears anyway.

This is a good thread David as this is somewhere around my eventual goal for my engine build too:a reliable 450-500lbft with as much area under the curve as possible is what I am aiming at.

I agree that taking a ride in a few different spec car is probably the best way to go about deciding what route to take - plots, charts, maps and figures don't tell then whole story
