Agree with that! Got the tank out of the urq at the moment, blocked with a flaking lining, otherwise i'd rip it over to you and compare notes. PM your mobile no.

Damn, Lou. That donor engine doesn't look too good.
What a PITA you've had to go to the trouble of a rebores, regrinds and refacing.

I picked out the best bits from lots of different engines to cobble mine together, at least 5 IIRC.

Sorry to hear that the rebuild is still a roller coaster ride Lou.

Hats off to your determination with the rebuild project. Hopefully there won't be any other injuries along the way!

Thanks for the coffee the other week, your assistance with pulling the motor fuse confirmed that mine had a faulty Lambda. A new one has been fitted, and the car is now running well.

Will have to catch up again soon. Also I have now got Vagcom, so if you need any fault reading, give us a shout.

You need to align bore / hone the mains, this is the right way to sort the problem. The caps will be skimmed, which will move the crank axis of the crank axis towards the deck slightly. You can get the pistons skimmed to correct the CR increase

I am going to do a dry build so I can measure the deck hight of each piston, then deside whether to go for another crank.Bloody car.

Unfortunately another crank won't help if the main tunnels need honing or boring, you will need another block

The mains are fine, the journals cleaned up well,it was the bigend, that where offset.

Sorry Lou I misread the original problem, I though you'd said the mains wouldn't clean up properly

In that case as I think Phil said above why can't they just grind the crank journals undersize?
