That idler pulley dont look right, NEVER seen a plastic one before so i bet its off something else / different size.

Looks to be a similar size to the water pump sproket, your's looks smaller? I'll have a look around in a bit and see if I have an old one I can measure.sigpic

That must be it then the idler is wrong part because the 147 teeth belt can not tension enough. Now well get somewhere! Thx again for the information as I stay in a small town where there ain't an Audi dealership that I can get information from. As I have send the S2 for an oil leak repair and it spiraled out to this headache for a week now trying to find info. Thanks again.

this thread give me all answers what I want to know..
my timing belt on 3B have 147 teeth , but it seems that 1 is too much.. so I taught that belt must have 146.. I fix that with adjustible cam pulley
but now I know where could be a problem.. IDLER.. hmm must go and take a look..

Nope, sounds like your kit is for a 7A/3B.
As for QuickTricks issue, i recently discovered the plastic idler pulley is actually for the 2.6/2.8 V6 engine.91CQ20v - Gone to a new home
