Well, another test to do would be to crack the fuel line at the rail and put it in a bottle and crank the engine, you should get a load of fuel out, same if you bypass the relay, quantity of fuel over time for this test are on here if you search.

Immob, down by the ECU they will most likely have opened up the loom and cut the green wire for the fuel pump and soldered in 2 black ones, easy to bypass.

You have to hate an intermittant fault..

Hmmm that makes sense newsh mate

With The FP relay bypassed pump runs

I'm going to check the wiring from immob to FP how I'm going to locate this wire is beyond me

The car this morning still wouldn't start from cool!

When I changed the FP initially it fired up like a treat..

The nuts on the last FP were corroded when changed but the wiring itself didn't look too clever either and when we changed the pump we made a point of making sure the wires were nice and tight at the nuts and secure around the top of the pump.. maybe a little too secure?!

I'm really hoping the filter cures it.. An overly optimistic approach I'm sure you will agree

The power feed to the fuel pump or to the relay which feeds it, runs through the immob, if the wiring is poor or the big multipin connector overheats then the fuel pump supply can get interrupted. It then cools down and works again for a while. I'm not certain of course but I've seen it and its possible. Ideally you need to get a meter on the fuel pump wire and see if the pump is getting power, it should get power while the engine is cranking. If you can manually close the contacts on the FP relay and voltage appears at the pump but the pump does not run then the pump is dead or the wiring at the pump body has a fault. The fuel pump should run if the ignition is on and you manually close the fuel pump relay.

    Will do newsh mate

I drove it 20miles though before it died again.. So would it be immObilser related?

I'm 99% sure it's fuel related it drove hesitantly and stuck in traffic suddenly it died

To say it's confusing would be an understatement!

If the Immob has a big multipin connector give that a wiggle and see if it starts

Should the fuel pump spin everytime the ignition is on?

Ive got the pump where it's in the fuel and is clearly visible..

I'm going to check/change the fuel filter tomorrow..

With regards to the immobilizer, well il be damned if it's that the amount of wires etc I wouldn't know where to start the fact that it's an aftermarket laserline one doesn't help the situation

Thanks newsh.. You have been a great help buddy

You say that James, however I think the pump may well have been working overtime! I heard it buzzing all the 20miles I drove it! If you can send it me I'd appreciate it greatly..

With regards to the other 2 relays I've kept them safe ..

Text me your address on my number when you get a minute please mate

    Thanks

If the fuel pump is sometimes running and sometimes not then I suspect either the relay or the alarm/immobiliser. On Keith's coupe the connector to the immob was burnt on the pins that carried the current for the pump.

If its a coupe the fuel filter is under the floor near the battery.

I do on a Avant but not a coupe, I'm sure they were easily accesible on a coupe where as the Avant ones are rather awkward to change. Someone on here will know for sure !

No worries mate, the 324 is after run pump, suppose its worth a try but I really can't see a connection with that myself. I certainly don't mind lending you one off the Avant though.

I'll text you my address to send the other bits back.

Cheers James, you have been an absolute pleasure to deal with, I'm going to get the fan relays back to you mine turned out to be ok I think it could be the other brown relay 324 I told you about?!

As for the car, it got going.. changed all the belts pulleys etc in the same excitement only for it to give up on me.. Again.. Gutted

Glad the parts turned up, at a loss to what it could be now though. If you need to borrow some bits again just let me know Shah.

    Hi all,

New relay, fuel pump tested all ok, still won't start!

I'm thinking fuel filter next when I did have it running it seemed hesistant getting to boost at around 3k then it would clear up then get a little hesitant..

Dismantled the fuel return not knowing it's a return hence no fuel comes out of it duuh

Any ideas where the fuel filter is located, checked fuel lines it's all coming through it's all getting confusing now as to what the problem can be..

Any thoughts ideas as always would be most appreciated..

    Thanks all
