yes i am concerned on the firing/injection order issue. didnt seem right at all from the get go..... ya no more sequential injection...i know there are a few guys on here running the Dta's but each has their own way of crank triggering. not sure how they have their systems set. if i added a cam sensor at a later date maybe it could enable sequential ....or i can do vems. i did make it so i can put a factory ecu back in plug n play. maybe this ecu would be better off on my v8.

but lets go back to the basics. set Dta to 1 cylinder. 1 coil. no spark..... i don't think my ignition drivers can drive these or the ls2 coilpacks. i 'think' i need a 5v pull up on the signal from the ecu to trigger on the leading edge of the wave. i was only referencing that image for pull up diagram.

Let's *really* go back to basics, i.e. the firing order is really 1-2-4-5-3, as cast into the head, as shown in Rikki Kitto's photo:

And because you asked, the pull-up resistor is used in a circuit to decrease the susceptibility to noise which can cause accidental triggers. It is essentially a soft 'spring' holding the signal 'off' until the ECU grounds it and pulls the circuit 'low'. A high resistance should be used to minimize current flow when pulled 'low'. It should be used on your ECU trigger, pin 3. SEMS may have it built in or as an option on certain channels.

          Thanks UrS4..i was thinking about...even if it was batching 5 coils for a v10...it would still be 1 2 4 5 3.

          Thanks cab9
Allan@Dtafast got back to me and said to use a 1K pullup from 12v. I'll try that after work. I sent him an email back asking about the firing order as well.

Well if Allan comes back and says the 1-2-4-5-3 firing order is wrong, *HE* is wrong.

I understand all that can be gained by running a cam sensor is a small ammount of economy at lower (cruising) revs, not really what you want in a rally car.

Have run it as V10 in batch mode, but now sequantial with a cam sensor because I want to be able to adjust cylinders individualy.

Urs4.. at this point i do not care what the firing order is..... it doesn't matter if I have ZERO spark. THIS THREAD WAS STARTED TO FIND HOW TO GET SPARK OUT OF A COILPACK. AEM and Megaquirt guys have the same issue with certain amplified coilpacks. all i am looking for is the coil to f'ng trigger. i have zero plans to find an aan ecu..repin my 3b ecu connector just to do your suggestion test prior to going standalone. i like your car and everything you bring to these forums....but dude

in 3 pages. Cab9fab is the only one who actually read and answered my question. again thank you.

back to firing order issue...thanks urs4 for seeing the bogus info

also if you have any insight to the firing order (1, 5, 2, 3, 4) in your instructions for the audi I5.... but the factory order is (1, 2, 4, 5, 3)

Just curious...i have had numerous people tell me i am going up my motor with the firing order provided.

                  Many Thanks,

That is because they do not know what they are talking about. Connect the cylinders up in the order the pistons come to the top of the bore.

What I am saying is maybe the spark issue is related to the timing issue. You keep asking about the correct timing order when it is a given (1-2-4-5-3). If you set your coils up with your stand alone that way, maybe you might get some spark.

But hey, good luck. I still say buy an hour of Marc S's time and you will be miles ahead of where you are now. Good investment.

all of my coils are wired in that exact setup you provided currently. there is a diagnostics mode in my ecu to fire the coils separately without the engine.

i even have a single coil out on the bench so i can put the DTA in single cylinder mode for testing. no go. I am picking up a $16 Ford 2 wire non amplified cop coilpack so i can give it power, ground to coil1 output, and ground the plug. i have not been home to try the 1k pullup on the current 4 wire units yet

Sorry, I am trying to leave these two DTA/coil threads but that quote from Allan at DTA is funny. For example, following his advice, how do you "time" a VAG inline four when pistons 1 and 4 both come to the top of the bore at the same time, like wise 2 and 3 rise as a pair? Coming to the top of the bore doesn't necessarily mean the cylinders are ready for spark, could be just the end of an exhaust stroke.

Maybe some forums are the last place to go for intelligent advice but this one is pretty good and I *know* we are dead on regarding the firing order.

There. *Maybe* now I can stay away.

At least your buddy is smart and will be using VEMS which has more technical and user support for the AAN/ABY etc that DTA.

(BTW I gave Marc S. at EFI Express the heads up that you might call him with your DTA issues - If you don't, that's fine too).
