Vag-Com problems

Bought a Vag-Com USB cable on eBay.

Hooked it up, checked the COM settings which tested ok, executed an engine test but says it cant communicate with car.....

Anything im missing on setting it up??

It may sound daft, was the ignition turned on before or after you initiated communications and which version of software did u use

Plugged USB in with ignition off then turned ignition on.
Software release is 409.1-US

Have u tryed all the com ports ? The usb cable has a built in serial port converter so the usb turns into a serial com port..

My 409 cable has com port 3

Go to Device Manager on your laptop and check what port has been assigned to the cable. Might have to change it.

When I do the check via VAG-COM options it comes up as port 3 working ok....

Other modules are read?Is the fuse for diag ok?Do you have internet conection on the comp that you tried to comunicate with engine module?Do you use a 2+2 adaptor?If yes is it ok?Should ceck adaptor wiring,i had a bad one once.

Only COM 3 works via VAG-COM.
Yes I have internet connection, when i try the engine tests, it just tries 4 times then says it couldnt connect.

Yes its a 2+2 adaptor, bought it on eBay

Have you checked fuse 12?

Have you plugged the 2+2 connector in correctly? Its possible to plug the cheap ones back to front.

Have you switched the ignition on?

What car/engine are you trying to read? Am I correct in thinking you have/had a 16v coupe? If it is this it may be the ecu is not compatible. I could never get my vag com cable to work with my 16v ecu. Try reading the ABS module or another car, if that works I would say its not liking your ECU.

Dont have the 16v anymore, this is on my 3B, ignition on, 2+2 adaptors triple checked. Will check that fuse after work its bound to be that knowing my luck.
