ABY Exhaust cam with RS2 set up

    Hi,

I am building up my S2 to match the RS2 spec; I will be using standard Audi RS2 parts like the Exhaust manifold, RS2 turbo etc.

I am aiming to match the standard performance of the RS2 to that of my S2 (ABY)

I am going to use the standard RS2 ECU but I may upgrade the software at a later date.

Should I upgrade to the RS2 exhaust cam? and what would you expect to happen to the performance if I just ran the car with the standard ABY Cams.

I understand the difference on paper 1 mm more lift with the stock and RS2 exhaust cam.

Should I consider the cam as a performance upgrade, is it necessary to do when upgrading to the RS2 performance.

What would the negatives be if I just left the standard ABY cams in the car and did the rest of the modification?

Just leave it as it is won't affect performance once mapped

No, this is not the whole story.
RS2 exhaust cam has 8 degrees shorter duration, and to compensate for the shorter duration the lift was increased.

This means that power wise, you will not gain anything from using the RS2 exhaust cam.
However, you will gain some fuel efficiency and some down low performance with the RS2 cam, but make sure it is clocked correctly.

Many people use the ABY cams with RS2 power and much, much more. The RS2 cam does have more lift but it is also shorter duration and the RS2 runs slightly retarded cam timing courtesy of the pulley wheel, so there are quite a few small differences to consider.

As Jamo says, if you get the car built to the spec you want and then get it properly mapped, it'll run just fine

Small change with the RS2 exhaust cam

So if I understand what is being said correctly it will make no real difference except for a bit of low down power not being gained and some no gain when it comes to fuel saving.

Changing the exhaust cam seems like quite a bit of work for no real gains.

If I use the standard RS2 ECU must I still get it mapped when using the stock ABY exhaust cam?

I would say yes, since the ADU (RS2) ECU sw is not matched with the ABY exhaust cam.

                Mapping is the problem

I have a problem in that I am not aware of anybody in South Africa who has sufficient knowledge of mapping the S2 with RS2 parts fitted.

I say that because I have not found anybody that has been able to assist, not that there is nobody.

                Are there any alternative?

Is it safe to get somebody in the UK or Germany to do the map for me and just plug in new chips?

You can use the stock ABY ECU, just send it my way before you fit it...
                        For example...

Then you don't need the very expensive ADU ECU.

You can also use other, more freely available and cheaper injectors this way, etc.

                          I have an ABY.

The following is being done. (All RS2 parts will be used)

                          Turbo
                          Exhaust manifold
                          Intercooler
                          Green top injectors
                          Air box
                          Inlet manifold
                          MAF
                          3" DP and exhaust system
Stock RS2 ECU or remapped ABY ECU to RS2

Well, let me know via PM if you need your ECU taken care of.

"Green top injectors" does not say much - there are 440cc apple green Bosch, there are also the darker green RS2 injectors.
If you have not bought them yet, I would use the Volvo/Bosch Green Giant's, as they can be bought new and the cost is about 250$. RS2 injectors are usually more.

With this map, using all rs2 parts. Guessing you need to change the fuel pump also?? Is there a turbo which is close to rs2 I see people speak about a volvo one??
