cheers guys, i will have a good look around it on the weekend, too dark when i get home from work. and without sounding stupid, what is the MAF?

It may well be a boost leak. I would suspect that IC 'o' ring if it hasnt been checked/replaced recently. If have one at the garage ready for when the cambelt is done.

Cool. Do you have a MArk H mod to fit?? This is the best time to do it. When I will already have the bumper off the car.

On the 3b check the static timing very carefully, the dissy marks must line up exactly or you can get a misfire at high boost as the ECU acts as though the engine is knocking..
