Anyone know the coo on Acetone?? Quite frankly I don't have a clue!!
Acetone and Toluene are pretty much the same stuff. Would need to google for the formula but I think they might be commonly used names for the same thing.

Nope, quite different animals. Toluene is less evapourating, and smell is different. However for engine - they might be the same taste .

IIRC Acetone can boost octane rating, but it also acts a bit like an agitator, so is good when used with substances like Toluene. Keep an eye on your rubber and plastic seals though, both could eat away at them.

I wish there was a good source for Toluene in the UK, I can only find it in ml or 1000l. I'm not sure on the purity of paint thinners either. Might be worth a go.

Acetone is a ketone, Toluene is an aromatic BTW. Quite different.

i've read that acetone is ok to use once or twice to clear out your engine of carbon but extensive use can cause excessive ring wear.

Acetone + V-power = NO OIL ON THE BORES!

We're talking about maybe 10% additive here in the tank. The old F1 turbo cars ran 82% Toluene.

Years ago Tom Hammonds (God rest his soul) gave me a tankful of 50/50 4star/toluene mix that he used for his hill climb Group B Quattro. That pushing 650 to 850bhp depending on what spec he ran so we figured it would be fun to try it in a road car.

It went in my then car a 1986 1.0ltr Polo. It was indeed rocket fuel. Sadly no exact figures but it flew on the stuff. Exhaust reeked too.

I can imagine. I'm amazed at the difference going from UK V-Power 99 (if it really is 99 RON ) to Deutsch V-Power 100. Once the car's running I'll be tempted to buy 1000 litres of Toluene and get a set of chips to run with a mix of it. 115 RON should make mine put out 650 to 850 bhp.

Mine still doesn't play well on Deutsch V-Power 100 It much prefers Aral 100. I might have to get myself an Aral am Ring sticker

I'd be interested to sse the effects of toluene in our engines. It worked fine in the Polo's old school carb engine but then again I wasn't too fussed about it blowing up as Tom would have rebuilt it for me anyway.

                      love the talk guys!
Years ago i ran an XR3 (hides face in shame!) & fitted a turbo to it. It would blow away fords own escort turbo too! I used, among other things (like 5th injector) acetone as an octane booster. I did a lot of careful checking first on the injector pipes etc (old K-jetronic on those old busses!) that the stuff didnt disolve plastic! Thats my only worry about using stuff like pain thinners.
I recently phoned a chemical supplier in glasgow about buying methanol & was treated to the 3rd degree! (They must be so rich they dont need any more business!) - decided it wasnt worth the hassle trying to buy it! (special vans etc to collect! special insurance , lisence)
I had to fill with std unleaded the other day (no super & I was on air!) & have to say the difference in performance is incredible! feels like she has lost a cylinder!
