    Noisy PAS

Just been outside to start car up after its been laid up for winter.

And I'm greeted by a noisy pas pump. Is this common with our cars?? Would tightening the belt help or the pump seen better days??

Mine too, although it seems to happen more when going uphill, when you have to add a small amount of throttle. Actually, you can provoke the groan by accelerating very gently and turning left slightly... never fails...

I read wd40 you shouldn't spray as it eats into the belt over time shorting the life span

My pump has been noisy for 140,000 miles, especially when cold but is still going strong.

probably just needed a run to let the oil thin down and lubricate the bits and pieces. Wouldn't worry

I changed the PAS oil, and it made quite a difference to the pump noise when cold, also gave more braking and steering assistance. (I'm sure it's not my imagination)
I also tried WD40 on the belt,(and it worked) careful to keep it away from the cam belt- not sure I would want wd on that!!

                              steering pump

I had a coupe for 12 years and in the winter pump was noisy, and summer it was quite. +sprayed with wd40 which works.Always said i wanted to replace when it died but it lasted the 12 years i owned it with no operational issues.changing steering fluid helps too.
