On motorgeek that 5857 was on a smaller ar turbine housing than the 30r and still slower to spool by 250 RPM. But it did make more power. More like a gtx3576r maybe...
Have a look at my thread. Photos may not be there as they were old but facts are. I had the Wagner manifold and SQ EM. HXS40 was simply a huge turbo. The head wasn't ported but I wasn't looking at the power figure but the huge lag at the time. I took it out for a gt30R and was very happy
GTX3071r is a better matched turbo for the AAN than GTX3076r... The problem with GTX3076r is the turbine wheel. Garrett realized this a created the GTX3576r. As for the Precision turbos, I chose to use a PTE5862 on a .64 vband housing, which is equal to GTX3576r but with a 3mm larger turbine inducer.
I was instructed the same if I wanted a safe and above 500hp mark (not whp ) to use a GTX3576 vs 3076 for the same reasons. With the 0.63ar it would reach that number. But cost put me off.

Is your head stock or ported? Also i think e85 really helps with the lag more concentrated power during combustion. the 3071r is a fantastic little turbo dont get me wrong...but its fantastic at being LITTLE. I have read nothing but great about the super40. Does your build have HO manifold like a rs2 or tubular or are you stock, that may have helped with the flowing of the hotside of the turbo. Im sorry to see your experience with the super40 go so bad i really want to run one for a 500hpAWHP urs4 without throwing to much timing, to keep it super reliable. One turbo for sure i want to try is the ProComp snails those triple ball bearing beast are crazy!

Why is it bad to have 1.8 boost at 4200 RPM on 3rd on a 600hp turbo?
I really wouldn't do that, running the GT35r turbine in that small a housing would seriously hurt flow
Not entirely true... A 62mm GT35 turbine in a .63 will certainly still out flow and keep EGT's reduced a lot better than a 55mm GT30 turbine in a .82 housing. As a matter of fact I remember seeing someone testing a GT30 wheel in a custom 1.06 housing and it did nothing but worsen spool with no power gain. Doesn't matter where you put that 55mm GT30 wheel, if it's matted to the GTX76r compressor it does not have the ability to spin it to it's full potential. The 62mm GT35 turbine does & .63 housing is fine for 7500rpm use under 2bar.
I've tried the .63 GT35r it was terrible however it was in a stroker environment, this was because hapster had success with it but the turbine restricted and caused horrible EGT's
