Great write up as usual, I'm sure it will come in handy one day.
My 2c worth - the worst boost leak I've had to detect on my RS2 was from the rubber pipe that attaches to the throttle body. What made this one very difficult was because the tear was at the bottom of the pipe. When the pipe was removed, visually looking at the pipe didn't show the tear, we only found it by "stretching the pipe to see the tear. Hope this helps someone in the future
    Cheers

When adding pressure via the compressor. Is there anything that I could potential? I don't mind making further holes in pipes so that's not a concern

Thanks very much. I am going to steal your photo and include it (credits to you) and some of your comments in the S2 3B/ABY and RS2 ADU and 200 20VT 3B boost testing posts to complement the unsplit one that I have there now.

This is what I have there now:

Not sure what you are asking but the idea is that since you need to put a large bung in either the inlet end of the MAF to turbo hose or the turbo to intercooler hose and the throttle body hose, there are at least two opportunities to create a bung with an inlet, either a compressed air fitting or a metal tire valve, similar to that shown here (and in the post above). No need to add holes, there are enough there to work with already.

If I'm pressuring the entire system should I block off the exhaust?

I understand why you are thinking this (pressurized air leaking pass at least 2 exhaust valves) but typically the answer is NO.

IF a cylinder has its exhaust valves open, then its intake valves should be closed tight(there isn't much if any overlap on the valve timing on these 20VT engines).

Great write-up. Could someone tell me how big this bung needs to be for testing AAN? Any ideas where to source one from in the UK?

                  Cheers,
                  Tom

The outside diameter of the discharge end of the OE MAF is 80 mm. The stock hose fits over this so 80 mm is your target. The one I made started life as a black ABS plastic soil pipe screw-in cleanout cap. I had to file and sand the threads off the cap to make it work. Then I added the inlet valve.

For plumbing fittings in the UK, apparently there are 480 PlumbCenters

Thanks. Don't suppose you have the rough sizes of the other bungs that are required to do the test?

It might sound a bit fishy, but I think I'm going to try one of these for the MAF bung

That will be too flexible and too difficult to install an air valve or fitting needed to pump air into the system.

Added this to the original post No.1

"5. The other hoses between the turbo and the throttle body, including those cut by over-zealous clamp tightening.

Like this one (turbo to cross-over tube and BPV) that held until 10 psig boost and then would open up and dump boost. At idle it would be closed up again, hidden.

                            Thanks Marv."

I have a question and I might have missed this.

Will the cam cover vent (pink in your diagram) be under pressure if I block off the pcv hole in the maf to turbo hose while pressure testing?

I would like to try and do the whole system just to be sure everything is fine, but since I'm running a catch tank system, then the cam cover vent goes to my swirl pot and hence if it is under pressure all the air will just piss out.

The PCV vent connection to the MAF hose (the orange lines) is connected to the pink cam cover vent lines at the Item 1 Breather tube hose. That said, the Item 10 One-way bleeder valve would protect both systems from boost pressure if it is working. If it has failed, everything down stream will be pressurized.
