    Yeah ofcourse it is.

got G12+ a mixed up with distiled ...but...

      Hi all
I got G12+ a mixed up with distiled water.
first removed the lowest tube from the radiator, to remove the old coolant. then attached everything again and filled teh 2 bottle (1.5L each) of G12+ audi coolant.
then put the rest of destiled water. almost 5L, not correctly 5L... I expected to put 5L plus something else. Does not the rs2 take 8.2L ?

so wander if I am making a to rich coolant+water mix??? what could be the consequences?
I can remove some colenat and add some more water

      thanx

Did you drain the block and the heater system too??? It maybe that you have an air pocket in the cooling system. They can be real devils to bleed sometimes. Had this on mine each time and Dougs car, when i did that

The block and heater system may have retained some old coolant/water when you drained the system.

Personally I like to take out the thermostat and flush through the head + block with a hosepipe via the top hose connection until the water runs perfectly clear. Similarly disconnect at least one hose to the heater and flush that through with the hose also (Heater set to 'Hot'). Same with the aux. and main rads.

You then know that only any sediment/old coolant is thoroughly removed and any remaining water will be 'fresh'.
Then fill with the required concentrate of G12+ and then add/top up with de-ionised water.
This ensures the exact amount of G12+ can be added without over dilution by any remaining water in the system.

If the RS2's total coolant capacity is 8.2 Litres, then you would need between 3.28 and 4.1 Litres of G12+ for a 40 or 50% mix. 2 bottles of G12+ should be OK but don't dilute further.

            Hi guys.

I need abit of a quick response on this one as I want to change the coolant today.

Is the capacity for the cooling system on the 3B the same as the RS2, 8.2 litres? The aux rad has been removed too so will this make any difference?

            Any help is much appreciated.

Right, I checked on s2central.net (as I should have done in the first place) and I found out the capicity is 8 litres.

Now my main concern is not having an aux rad, does this make a blind bit of difference?

              Anyone?

Just alternate which fluid you put in. half a litre of water then half a litre of G12 and so on...

Leave the expansion tank top off and run up to full temp. Once the fan has kicked in replace and you should be done...

                Cheers,

                Steve.

Just a quick tip. If you are using genuine Audi coolant, then get "G12+"
This will ensure you don't run into any trouble as the system may have either G11 or G12 in it now. G11 and G12 CAN'T be mixed.

G12+ mixes with the other coolants without turning your cooling system into a lumpy diarrhea factory.

                      Thanks Jas!

We are completely draining the coolant but to be on the safe side I now have some G12+ coolant sitting next to me, its better to be safe than sorry.

I'll let you know how it goes.

                        Ok guys another question.

The car is not with me at the moment, my dad has it back at the house and rang and asked a few questions.

Obviously the bottom hose of the rad needs to be popped off but access from the top is apparently a no no. So just to confirm, he said he needs the under tray off, is this right? Obviously I cant see the car from here so its a little hard to judge.

You can get to that hose by removing the bottom grille in the bumper. A little tight to get to the hose and jubilee clip, but a lot less hassle than rolling around on the floor taking the undertray off. (better to use a socket onto the jubilee clip rather than a screwdriver)

Sorry to kind of hi-jack this thread, but this is the same job as I will be doing soon. I want to replace my pipes too with Samcos as they are getting a bit old and saggy...
I read that it is best to replace thermostat, and also to flush through this with a hose, also to flush through heater...
I have the 3B variant LHD version with the Electronic Climate Control, with a sensor on one of the matrix hoses...
How do I flush this through, if I set the temp on the heater to hot, will it still open for refilling when cold?
I guess I have to flush with tap water, blow through some air to flush out the tap water and refil with de-ionised water? otherwise there ia a load of tap water still in the matrix?
anyway, I tried to refill the system on a Nissan 300ZX with huge problems of air locks....
Is there a tried and tested method for avoiding this problem?
Grateful of any advice which will lessen the chances of me making a b@ll$ up...!
                            Thanks guys
