Having got my 90 20v on the road over the weekend, I've started to have problems. Between 2800-3000rpm and 4400-4600rpm the engine dies out and slowly builds until it pulls again strong. I've searched and found it may be the knock sensors and have replaced these with two from a AAN engine and the flat spots are still there... HT leads and plugs seem ok and wouldent expect them to cause such rpm exact conditions everytime

Just make a test light, takes about 5 minutes, all you need is an LED and some wire.
Knock sensors in my experience on the 7A basically make the car feel really flat and lazy to rev, but still smooth. As James says need to pull the codes could be one of many things

Found my cable, plugged it in read the ECU no fault codes. So took the car for a drive, nade her do the bd behaviour, didn't turn the motor off ran vagcom again still no faults. I'm at a loss
I know the knock sensors are different but read a number posts where others had success...Comment

Hmmm, the TPS can sometimes be a PITA and throw no codes. Yours will be the later one I guess?
They are much easier to get hold of luckily, early ones are really rare in good working condition

Does the 7A have an IAT sensor? Similar symptoms on the ur when this is bust or has a bad connection, don't know if this would throw a code or not though..Comment
