10W50 is recommended by some experts in the field for an S2/RS2 engine that is driven enthusiastically from time to time. Some use 10W60 if it's tracked as well.

If it's overfilled (and it looks like you have, I find 1/2 litre will take it from low oil to near the max line) and the sump plug is giving you grief, or you don't want to get messy, get a primer pump (Laser brand for example) and take the dipstick holder off, stick the tube down there - you can pump the oil out that way too.

Sounds like its been overfilled. As said adding 2.5 litres to bring it near max would mean there was only about 2 litres in it before filling... i'd say you would of had a problem before filling if this was the case.

Hi Rynaqui, for reference...
Today I did our S2's mid year oil change. (one in April with filters, one in October without). I use a Pela Oil Extractor for both services, pumping out the sump, in April, I then release the sump plug and oil filters.... In October (today) I just pump the sump dry and refill... The dipstick was on minimum, I extracted 3.2 litres hot and replaced with 4litres cold to Max the dipstick. 10w40....

I also use 10/40 and Always have on all my Audis. (S2s, various 1,8t and so) and have never had any problems.

All sorted, oil changed and I had an excess of 1.5 litres of oil

Whilst under it, found I had a couple of bolts loose on the a/c compressor bracket so that's a plus too!
