Will try keep this to the point, driving along and up to temperature, dip the clutch in to downshift at normal revs 2-3k and car randomly shuts off, engage a new gear and release clutch and it starts back up without issue about 2 seconds later.
What could this be, it's happened twice on separate occasions, got me stumped
Car runs fine though and would only do it once in a whole 1 hour drive which is weird. What are other known causes? Could a faulty cam sensor be the culprit? Battery issues? Earth?
Had a look at the battery just to make sure everything looks ok and all is good. Will have the earth looked at around the inlet manifold but where is the other earth located? Cam sensor going to be replaced by a genuine item when the cam belt etc will be done too .
I would be looking for something electrical connected to engine movement when you dip the clutch.
Whilst idling, I'd check every loom and connector between the engine and body to see if they repeat the problem, especially the ignition loom. As other's have suggested, got to check the engine earth wire that runs along the RHS engine mount.
I'd also check in the driver's footwell above the clutch pedal that no wiring has got caught up in the mechanism.
Thanks for all the help guys, just went down and had the undertray (steering) off and had a peek and nothing is anywhere close to the clutch mechanism and it all looks in good working order. Started the car and pressed the clutch pedal a few times but nothing.
Will try have the car down in the garage so we can have a peek underneath, we've done the engine mounts recently so I suspect the RH side earth strap by the engine mount may have been nudged a little, maybe the clutch in action is somehow enough to move the engine to disturb the earth strap a little? Just a thought.
After the first few weeks of driving after the mounts had been done none of this occurred and only started to happened recently. Can only help to check though
