Its boosting around 18psi max , so about 3 psi down. And its running about 30kw down (dyno'd) and rich.

The other possibility is the timing/ RS2 is one tooth out on the cam belt.
With regards to the cambelt being out I've twice asked explicitly if the cambelt has been installed correctly (Audi) and once to the old owner (who did the change). They have all replied yes.

How hard is this to check myself? Just remove a cover and look or is it a bit more involved (other belts in the way etc?)

My ECU was converted by hoffer76, although I'm not sure if he does this any more. I'm sure that prj can point you in the right direction...
Yeah, I'm still trying to source another ECU, Dmitri was going to sort but I've not heard from him in a while - anyone know of any other ECUs out there?

I would check first thing first that the timing it's correct.
That can be an crucial issue because you end up with a bad breathing motor, usually if every mark it's been aligned you'll come to some important turbolag.
Check the marks on the flywheel and on the big bottom pulley/dumper are aligned and then your cams pulley must be in this position.

Thanks, is there a dummies guide on how to do this?

            - Remove A \ B \ C
            - Check these marks here and here, etc etc

Just had a word with a friend that had the wrong timing on his RS2 once (note that "wrong" in our cars means that all the marks are set "right")
He experienced no more then 0.7/0.8 bar of boost... Putting the cams pulley one tooth of the mark as per posted picture got him everything back to normal.
It might be that your poor boost it's just due to wrong timing?
                  I hope for you

Would that explain the black smoke up the back of Johns car? Would the incorrect timing make the car run rich?

As Vento RS2 said check the timing. With fly wheel lined up at tdc the cam mark should be one tooth out ,as in the picture. Rs2 has a different water pump ,this is why . Do not trust Audi as most of the dealers don't know what an s2 is ,let alone the much rarer RS2. Take the black plastic cambelt cover of ,and you will see if its right, or not once and for all.

Big big quote in all 220bhp!

We had a new guy in our Club that bought an RS2 from his uncle.
He went trough a major maintenance (including of course timing belt) at Audi dealer.
The guy and his father are bigtime pistonheads and are up to the understanding of what's involved in a motor (the father is a Collector of musclecars and.... Iso Rivolta)
So after the Audi work I put under their attention the RS2 belt set up they sure checked and find it "wrongly" set.
They went back to Audi and when they explained to the chief what was the story the Audi mechanic refused categorically to accept the explanation.
They got him at the telephone with me and after 5 mins of talking he proceed to do the set up but not before the customer signed that the job was carry out under his sole responsability....
Eventually such a fassy professionist was fair enough to present his apologies to me after two minutes of driving with the correct timing set up.....

                            Just an update.

A mate from work (ex mechanic) took a look over the car at lunch time. Prior to this he had a think about what it could be, looked at all the correspondence , forums, etc and did some research.

Long story short he did some basic checks , check connections pins , looking for corrosion, loose things etc. Figuring out what all the sensors were etc and he found what looks to be a temp sensor (on the top front of the engine) had a broken boot cover over the connection and the bare pins were sitting against the metal cover.

A bit of insulation tape to do a quick fix and he moved onto other stuff.

Lunch time ran out so we called it quits to next time.

It could just be me thinking things are better but to me the car now runs so much better. Smooth , linear, no clear black smoke. Not sure if it's boosting like it should (haven't managed to get it out) , but just general driving its putting a smile on my face.

Not sure if it was covering up the exposed pins or reseating a whole heap of connections. But this one lunch time seems to have achieved more than multiple thousands of dollars of other stuff (sure, I've got clean injectors and a whole heap of other new \ serviced parts)

                            ....

Hopefully I haven't jinx'd this but it seems much better.

Here is a pic of the item.

Not sure what it is? Looking up a part number (443906233)

Results come back with a MAF connect - https://www.google.co.nz/url?sa=t&rc...75097201,d.c2E

                              Or knock sensor

Or maybe its a part thats used multiple times on varying sensors

                                Hall sensor.
Nothing to do with running issues.
If it failes the motor don't start if it's ok motor switches on.
It tells the ECU the position of the camshafts so that ECU trigs ignition and fuel pump.
Did you che check your timing belt?
