The F76 Multifunction temperature sender has different functions in the ABY and ADU than the AAN. For all three, the MFTS is the sender for the temperature gauge in the instrument cluster. On the ABY/ADU, the MFTS is also connected to the ECU via pin 46 of the T55 ECU connector. Using this pin as a high temp alarm (> 119 C) - the ECU cuts off active boost control as a safety measure. Eliminating that signal might freak out the ECU.

    F76 MFTS info: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/22584.phtml

There is no signal it's just a switch, it's open (normal condition) and closed in (over temp), that's why you can just cut the wire or unplug it and the ECU is none the wiser.
Many people have done this on ABY when the MTFS goes **** up and reduces you to spring boost.
You can also wire a switch in to give you a “Valet mode” as no code is stored in the ECU when the switch is opened again.

In Canada all Coupe GT and 4000 quattro had them.

                    Hope this helps.

7A uses the MFTS, where did you see that the 2-pin sensor was used on a 7A??

Can't find it ATM, but I didn't make it up. I searched 049919501E under Local Market, A10Q, then ATP, All models. Lots of C3 and B3s come up. I don't find 7A now either, just KV for the ACOQ. (???) but I did see it.

                        I think.

No need for KATE, I can tell you from experience 7A uses MFTS just like 200/S2/S4/S6
Other B3, possible, but I also know that once Audi switched to 2.3 enignes (mid '87) the MFTS became standard across the board, it was used on the 1987.5 Coupe GT as well.

                          Cheers

I just so happen to working on this problem on my type 85 Quattro to which I am fitting a ABY motor, with after market ECU.

The type 85 (original engine was a KV) has an alarm and light that goes off on overheat and/or on low water level condition. To me it looks like both circuits are normally open,
                            But the light flashes continuously.

I can not find the problem. Electronics are not my strong point. Any suggestions?

I am using an additional temp sender from the back of the head in the water manifold as it has the same thread as the MFTS. Have not seen whether the resistance of this sender matches the OE sender.
                            Regards
                            Ryss

This sounds like such a good move I've had nightmares with MFTS over the past couple of years and at £120 from Audi they need deleting
