Morning guys,
Had a strange one with the S2 (standard ABY with homefries & 145k miles) on the way home last night. I drove home ~13 miles and was stuck in slow moving traffic for 5 minutes or so (same as every night). Just as I was approaching a roundabout a very pronounced judder/hesitation started. It did this until I got home and was doing it under cruise, light boost AND idle. So, I got home and grabbed the garage keys while the wife left and moved her car from the driveway. My car still juddered all the way into the drive. I plugged in my diagnostic hand-held hoping it might point me in the right direction but only gave a 561 code, which has been there for a while. I got some tools and whipped of the coil cover, thinking there might be a plug loose or some damaged wiring but didn't find anything. I gave the injector harnesses a push & a wiggle in case one had come loose but again, didn't find anything. When I then started the car up (fearing the worst) it idled perfectly, as it always has.
When it was misbehaving there wasn't any funny noises, pops or bangs. It idled fine (other than the judder) and when driving just felt like it was down a cylinder. When boosting it a little bit it almost felt like it was getting better as the revs rose!?
I'm just wondering if I have a coil pack on the way out or, one of the little rubber plug boots. When I had the coil cover off its clear the coils and boots haven't been changed at all so this might be the issue here. Either that or could there be a duff injector?
Would any of these throw a code?
One other thing I noticed which might be totally unrelated is that when I tried the engine after looking around, I pulled the harness off the ISV and the idle smoothed out slightly and increased by a small amount. This could be a red herring though...
Any ideas guys? I like having problems that self repair but its better to know what actually happened too!
many thanks in advance
