    More power thread.

Sorry about this but its yet another 'more power' thread. Ive been on the 034 site and the prices between the Gt28 and the GT30 are hardly anything. Question is, whats the stock internals capable of on my '96 ABY?

At the moment, its got a homefried ecu and a 3"downpipe, straight to the back box.

Im not after massive power, just enough to see off RS Focus' and the like £2000 is ideally where I want to be budget wise...

Can someone shed a little light over here?

    Thanks a lot all!!!

Unless you really want to open up your ABY engine and replace the rods with something sturdier than stock, I suggest going with 034's K26/Garrett GT2871 hybrid. All the top end of an RS2 turbo with none of the initial lag of the RS2 turbo. They have both the turbo and the water/oil line kit to install the turbo (on an RS2 or Wagner RS2 Evo EM):

    Turbo:

and their oil and water line kit:

to make a decent difference over the homefry and exhaust id say you want to look towards the high 300hps. maybe into the low 4's

stock rods are on the limit about there. as is the intercooler and inlet. fuel pump is past the limit.

you will need a turbo, manifold, some injectors, fuel pump and a map minimum. my personal opinion is go t3 on the exhaust over kkk. simply more choice. you could go gt30 or the like or even an older style to4e perhaps for a lot less cash than the GT unit. your 2k may stretch you to your goal with a non bb turbo.

the usaual applies in that 2k soon turns into 4k. what with brakes and other bits.

speak to prj regarding a map and also potential turbo choices. im sure there are some very regular maps going on for certain turbos. tried and tested is your friend on a budget

I was racing on track stock motor this year. The problem with stock engine is no HP but Nm. If your engine is rock solid than it can hold 500Nm on all rpm. IMO ~450HP is possible on stock engine. Maybe bit more.

You have to watch to have not more than 500Nm in the lower revs 3000-4000 rpm. It is good to have flat Nm curve rather than diesel like spike and lower Nm on 5000-7000 rpm. Spike can kill your stock rods.

The list of parts listed by GazzaG60 is right.

I'm selling a hybrid k26 turbo that you can read about in 'Parts For Sale' section.

I would seriously consider the Volvo k24 - 7400 route, for a road car turbo it is very useable. I had a homefried S6 and exhaust system, the car went well, but the jump to the Volvo setup was a lot, on boost very similar to stock. If you are wanting a 2871 or similar PM dieseldes on here, he might be selling his old setup.

prices do vary and nowadays its a bit more costly.

                I got

                wagner tubes - 350
                sc6152e - 580
                seimmens 650cc -120
                044 (2 off wrc escort) second hand - 75

I mapped with vems and very little else was changed initially. so those "back in the day" prices were 1/2 your budget. that with 1.4 bar boost on a stock setup engine with a 3" system was nice and brisk. to control that brakes, suspension, bushes, top mounts were added. I think this bit is a MUST on these heavy cars.

so add the map or vems, gauges, brakes, suspension....... you got an easy 4k for a nice setup car. add rods, etc for the nxt step and a few more bits might as well call it 6k

its a slippery slop that vertical decent to HP.

If you stick to max 500Nm you are on the safe side with rods.

agreed but its in the tuning also.

I went rods as I slipped going onto the slippery slope but my initial power goal was higher hence the tubes and turbo choice.

id try to source a turbo this side of the water if possible if not try paul at boostfactory.net. he's been good with me and delivery isn't what you hear about 034. much quicker.

360-375 HP / 560-580Nm ... all depends on the rest of the setup.

You can limit Nm by limiting boost at lower revs.

not a big enough difference in power imo from homefried aby for the amount it will cost. basically need the same things to get it to work right.

                            You think ?
I have 370hp RS2 turbo set up, the difference from homefried ABY is night and day, literally pisses all over homefried/chipped ABY at ~280hp.
Add the fact that no custom mapping is needed it saves a lot of money as you just bolt it on and plug it in and drive it.

Best to get the car done to rs2 spec, otherwise you will never drive it, it will be never ending project that ends up on ''For sale thread''
